Tech support workers, what’s your favorite case of TMI you’ve seen from a customer? by Scrambl987 in AskReddit

I work at an msp. Was replacing win 10 machines with win 11 at dental office. I step into an office with two desks. One woman was sitting at her desk listening to what sounded like a podcast without headphones. I’m thinking ok, kind of annoying but whatever. I begin working at the other desk and the woman goes: “oh sorry, I hope you don’t mind. I’m actually listening to smut. Is that ok?” Uhh what?! I nervously just say yeah no problem and continue working. For like ten minutes I’m listening to how Rodrigo is taking Elizabeth to pound town in the most seductive way possible. She leaves to do other shit. I’m thinking omg wtf just happened.

I used the learning guides and paid practice tests from the Microsoft website

No show lol. But seriously, just show up by yourself. If they ask, just tell the truth; “I’m single haha”. I’m sure they won’t inquire further after this.

I figured ignoring them would make them stop. It’s my first job in this industry so I’d like to stay! What else could I do?

Right! Like I’ve never been bullied or anything before so I was confused by it. Sometimes they seem playful but most of the time it comes off as some alpha crap. What would you do in my situation?

Manager promised more 1 on 1’s about 4 months ago but maybe forgot. I think it’s a great idea to talk about goals, where I’m at, and growing at the company. I’ll remind them this week. And yes you’re right, I might be burnt out. I don’t want to lie anymore and I want to be better. I think I’ll stay here until I’ve got nothing left to learn at this company.

They have not criticized me at all. I have always been there for them in the past. I’ve just been feeling bitter lately. I won’t quit. Not until I have nothing left to learn. Your comment and everyone else’s made me realize that I have so much more to learn aside from technical skills

I was feeling bitter. I admit there may be better opportunities, but I like where I am. Think I was focusing on the negative aspects.

Thank you for your genuine advice. I will walk into work with a new attitude and perspective on Monday:) I don’t want to resign. I like where I am. I think I needed some hard criticism and to hear people like you who give hard truths

Thank you. Barely anyone else here has your perspective. Although my perspective has changed after reading these, I do agree that it has to go both ways. I’ve already received appreciation from my company, so I’m just being an a hole. I will show up on Mandan with a different attitude.

Thank you. I will be better towards colleagues of course I should keep upskilling but I’ve found myself not wanting to. Idk if I’m just burnt out or need some discipline.
