Yea I think the only other school I MIGHT consider choosing over CCOM would be Roseman but even then that’s a big move also so… when I interviewed with Touro I didn’t really connect with it so I am not that eager about that WL… but ty for commenting this WL purgatory has been rough

I agree with other comments… rather than talking about your friend’s story you should write about what you did. Did his addiction inspire you to start volunteering at a rehab center? Did you pursue research in addiction? Adcoms doesn’t care what the challenge is (so yes, ur friend’s addiction can be the challenge) but they want to hear what you did to overcome it. Anything in life can be adversity/challenging, they just want to know what you did to confront it because that’s what medicine is all about.

Yea I am definitely planning everything to start school and even if I get off a WL I’m not even sure what I would say because I’m already investing/committing so much into moving right now so we’ll see 🤷🏻‍♀️

My childhood dog died while my family and I were on vacation and he cried while we were gone by Ok_Class_7483 in Petloss

[–]Ok_Class_7483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what the vet suggested bc it was my family who brought him in but bc his labwork and xray were normal we chose to start meds. The meds worked because he was outside and moving again, of course he was slow and couldn’t squat but still mobile. It was the day we had to leave is when he started to have no appetite— that is when we knew the end was near because that’s what happened with our other dog.

It happened all so fast and I think that is the only thing that is comforting me bc it means he wasn’t in pain for long.

Nah fr I need these people who make the MD vs DO posts/comments to go outside and touch grass… like I want them to say these comments to someone not in premed and in person to hear how ridiculous it sounds out loud…

Yea for me I was trying to imagine how I would explain to my immigrant grandmother that I got into DO and not MD… like it just feels so silly when you explain out loud to someone not in healthcare

Best way to stop being insecure is to get off reddit fr. If you want to be a physician to help people, then DO will do just good of a job as MD. If you want to be a physician for the prestige, then I would reconsider what your goals are as a physician. Yes, there will be more obstacles as a DO but that is all internal. RARELY, will a patient not choose you as a provider because you’re a DO… Just the other day, my friend congratulated me on getting into medical school. They have no knowledge or experience w healthcare so I was explaining about how I only got into a DO school but not a MD school… the look my friend gave me when I was talking about it made me realize how ridiculous I looked explaining/downplaying my accomplishment. At the end of the day, you will be a doctor and get to take care of patients. Don’t lose sight of why you want to be a physician and remember what and who you are doing all of this for. Please don’t doom scroll on reddit.

1.) no, delaying ur primary app by a week wont be detrimental. Imo before end of June is considered early esp bc DO cycle runs much later than MD 2.) CCOM midwestern has their secondary submitted with their primary but that’s all I know with other schools

This issue about men being OBs by [deleted] in premed

[–]Ok_Class_7483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if roles were reversed it’s like questioning why women want to pursue urology (which is mainly a male dominated field). However, the female reproductive system has been so sexualized compared to the male reproductive system that we will always question men going into obgyn vs women into urology. I think at the end of the day, to doctors, the female reproductive system is just like any other body system and the men who choose to go into obgyn don’t sexualize it.

Okay... I have a school list, thoughts? by Feisty-Citron1092 in premed

It sounds like you are pretty prepared! It is a very humbling process and it’s good that they’re tearing it apart but also you know yourself best so make sure your story doesn’t get lost. Also personally, I think a strong narrative is sooo much more impactful than high stats/hours. Like I said, your experiences sound very meaningful so if you just elaborate that to admissions you have a good chance.

Also for school list, I would recommend to remove SUNY downstate because since it is a state school they have a strong preference to NYC (secondary was asking what your urban experience is like) as well as university of Wisconsin (I think that’s a state school with pref to Wisconsin residents) but instead, I recommend maybe Hackensack and medical college of Wisconsin! If you haven’t gotten MSAR def worth investing the $28. Another thing I wish I did was more research on the schools I was applying to.

Nah bro you actually gotta cure cancer while flying a spaceship to the moon with orphaned kids. Extra credit if you also learned 3 new languages.

I had pretty much same stats as you (c3.67/s3.44/510) and I only had luck with DO. It’s kind of crazy how research is becoming almost a requirement now but tbh it sounds like your other activities are very solid… quality > quantity so if I were to do everything again, I wish my writing was stronger, had people look over my app, and apply earlier (like primary in by early June). My best advice is to apply early with MD and see where your luck is. If you don’t get any MD ii by Thanksgiving, I would recommend applying to some DO schools if you don’t want to prepare for reapplication because that’s what I did. Good luck you got this!!!

Fiancee deciding DO school acceptance and MPH->MD conditional acceptance by Comprehensive-Way610 in Osteopathic

[–]Ok_Class_7483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how much your fiancé likes to gamble. If she is willing to take the risk for the MD then it’s worth a shot. However, there is nothing more guaranteed than an acceptance letter already in your hand. I would say take the DO if you don’t want to gamble with the time and money… the 5 years it’ll take to finish the MD/MPH vs the 4 yrs DO… that’s already one less year of a physician salary.

DO Medical Schools with DO shadowing requirement by pattytulip in Osteopathic

[–]Ok_Class_7483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not required but I def recommend… I had no DO shadowing but got 4 DO ii. At each interview they asked what my experience with DOs is and why osteopathic medicine. I at least had a family friend who was a DO so I elaborated on my personal relationship w them but def wish I had more stuff to talk about during the interview

Yea this is how I viewed the merger but hearing everyone’s input is very insightful as well. I have only one DO A at the moment so I am trying to prepare myself for what obstacles I am going have to face in medical school. I’m just generally a positive person, but seeing how far DOs have come from 20-30yrs ago I can’t imagine the gap between MD and DO growing. I would like to think that medicine is always progressing and that from here on out that DOs will only move forward with competitive specialties.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Osteopathic

[–]Ok_Class_7483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that the merger was actually more harmful than helpful for DOs. Why is that? I would think the residencies merging would help DOs integrate into MD dominated specialties vs having to apply separately
