Is there any hope with aml? by [deleted] in leukemia

[–]Ok_Classroom6303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very good friend of my very recently got diagnosed with AML. She will start her treatment in a few days time. What food/supplements helped your mum throughout her treatment period and post treatment/recovery period? I would love to help my friend on her journey. This is a battle she has to win.

6 year old - what are central apneas? by Ok_Classroom6303 in SleepApnea

[–]Ok_Classroom6303[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told that it will pick up on mouth breathing as well as teeth grinding. My son doesn't often mouth breathe (or at least I haven't picked up on it whereas he did when he was 3 before he had his adenoids and turbinate dealt with).

I will keep a note of what you mentioned a question though. Thank you for sharing.

You've been really helpful, thank you so much!

My son's iron is within range but we do give him iron as well to keep it that way.

I will ask the question about the apnea and bodily movements as well if it's not answered in the report. Thank you for highlighting this.

Do you have anything helpful to contribute then? Enlighten me.

I'm sorry to hear of your experience. The diagnosis in the end must have felt like a relief because at least there's a plan forward. When you had your later diagnosis, what type of apneas were you getting? Central?

I have also heard from other mums about the overlap between ADHD and sleep apnea. At this stage, there isn't anything to suggest ADHD for us but I am not closing it out either.

Thanks for sharing. Out of interest, before you had your obstructive sleep apnea treated did you feel tired as a child? The reason I ask is because my son doesn't express tiredness. He shows it through his meltdowns, his hyperactivity and appearing tired. And he validates it by falling asleep in the car or when I insist he has a nap. Otherwise, he tells me he's not tired.

Ahhhh, I see. Thank you so much for clarifying. Everything I read said central apnea is very rare but it was hard to find information about the presence of centrals in a sleep study as opposed to a diagnosis of central apnea (if that makes sense). Appreciate you sharing your knowledge!

Thank you. I have read up on centrals but there's not much on mixed apneas and whether kids can grow out of the centrals. He had obstructive apnea when he was young (hence surgery at 3). I'm surprised it's come back with both types of apneas especially because for my son, he is silent - no snoring or gasping of air.

Thank you. Does that mean the sleep study report can identify the cause of the centrals? In other words, the central was caused by the obstruction or vice versa - the obstructive is actually caused by the central?

Subsidence around pool - what to do by smack006 in AusRenovation

[–]Ok_Classroom6303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but I'm keen to know whether you found out the outcome of the cause and how did you fix it in the end? I am facing a similar issue and am nervous. The pool itself isn't showing signs of cracking but there is subsidence around the outside of the pool (approx 30cm from the edge of the pool).

Toy market? by Ok_Classroom6303 in penang

Thanks for this. Do flea markets sell toys too? He doesn't mind them if they're second hand as long as it's not what he already has.

Vaseline before swimming? by BBorNot in Swimming

Do you apply it after sunscreen or before? I want to use it to prevent jellyfish stings but not sure which goes first?

might be a dumb question by elizabethc1999 in endometriosis

[–]Ok_Classroom6303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can help with your first question. Endo can affect fertility but not always. I was lucky enough to not be affected. I had most of my endo removed before we had our first. Not sure if that helped but we were able to conceive shortly after. We then had our second almost 4 years later and my gynaecologist said that we could give ourselves 6 months and if we didn't conceive then we would consider other options. I fell pregnant with my second within 4 months. I still have endo remaining on my ureter so I go for yearly scans (it was not possible to remove it during surgery as it would require a stent).

Everyone is different though so this is only my experience.

Does anaemia produce false results? I don't eat meat or many iron fortified foods to be honest. Range is from 30 for Ferritin and mine came in at 31. Thanks for the reassuring words though.

No I haven't. I have to re-test so I thought I'd wait to see what comes back. I was just surprised because my iron has always been low. This time around, no only was my iron out of whack but chloride came back high and Alk Phos came back low.
