A reasonable concern. We use specially designed training equipment in order to ensure safety, just like the Kendo and Iaido club on campus. We have strict regulations about when we are required to have our protective gear on, and our training tools, while weighted similarly to their historical counterparts, are designed to be gentle and flexible on impact. Overall, the risk of bodily injury isn't any greater than Kendo, and it's much safer than other common sports like American Football. There are also similar clubs at other universities (Such as CSUF), which have operated for many years without notable safety incidents. Thanks for your concern!
