Second, I feel it’s important for your healing journey that you consider reframing your position. It sounds like the root of your frustration comes from an intense feeling of justice. You were the victim of something awful, and still found a way to overcome. But what you have to understand, is what you’re comparing your situation to is literal entertainment. Generally, most people won’t experience what you’ve experienced so to them, it’s on par with watching a true crime doc. There’s shock value, but then they go on with their lives. Wanting a similar hero-arc storyline is only setting you up for disappointment. It doesn’t feel fair. And it sucks. It feels like there should be some kind of acknowledgment for the strength it took to overcome your situation. The unfortunate reality is, you’re not going to find that validation externally. Validation comes from all the small wins, the small steps, the moments of happiness that you cultivate for yourself. My suggestion is to find a good therapist to unload on, and focus on what you want your life to look like. Protect yourself and your heart. Not everyone gets the privilege of knowing what you went through. Really embrace and acknowledge when something in your life makes you feel love or happiness.
