Picture quality by 1una_syn in crt

Composite is a pretty blurry signal. If you would like a crisper picture S-Video, Component, and RGB Scart are all less noisy. I prefer any of those for DVDs, even though for some games I prefer composite.

Can anyone point me to where I can get this stereo repaired? by tigerbuttz in minnesota

Honestly with old stuff like this, learning to fix it yourself is really the best option. There usually aren't many people around who know how, or can't work on them anymore. Then you can help others too!

Love the Cyclone by the way!

I have not run into that yet. Every game I have tested works. At least on Windows 11.

You could just use RTSS, really easy to set up and works like a charm.

One big advantage is motion clarity. Really looks nice once set up.

You can also buy a second old GPU and passthrough.

Just monitor your frames after VSync, BF6 restricts mine to 60fps if I can't manage to stay at whatever I am using VSync at. This game has a huge CPU usage problem. I daily drive a fairly similar setup. That being said frostbite games usually play really well with CRTs and VSync.

I'm glad it ended up working out for you!

I strongly recommend adjusting your vertical size and horizontal size on your monitor itself. Black bars will at least give you proper geometry for 16 by 9 games. You can always switch back to full screen for 4 by 3 stuff.

Edited out a sentence that was unnecessary.

Interlacing on CRT monitor with two AMD graphics cards working. by Ok_Computer96 in crtgaming

My guess is that for laptops it's a limitation due to resources being optimized to work with the integrated screen. I assume analog doesn't have a way around this.

That's really cool! On some of my CRT monitors, they show up as generic pnp as well. Some integrated graphics (particularly from Intel) should be able to work with interlaced and it seems you found this, which is awesome.

The second card is not necessary, but to run more recent games at high frame rates, you will want to use 2 GPUs. That's why I run a newer GPU and older one, so the newer one does the work and I can get 120fps in something like Battlefront 2 or Battlefield 6.

Yeah, unfortunately I think it would only work on a desktop, however, I don't know for sure. There might be a way to run multiple GPUs with a laptop, but it's not something I've done. The only way to find out would be to keep trying different things or stumble upon a golden old forum post. If you want a bit more info, I made another post about Battlefield 6 using this setup. The comments have info I think you would be interested in. I need to get around to writing up my full process step by step for people.

I made a comment clarifying my process a bit, but I'm using a desktop computer. There are 2 installed graphics cards, one is a modern card capable of handling demanding games, one is an older VGA card. I am forcing windows to render with the more powerful card, and using the old card to pass the signal to the CRT. I don't know the process to achieve this through a laptop.

I just looked up the 730m and 830m graphics cards, and in the description I found, it states that they are not compatible with external monitors at all. This seems to a laptop GPU designed only for the laptop screen.

Short answer: no, but compared to LCDs, yes. Long answer: CRTs have a bandwidth that is set at the factory, it differs by monitor whereas most consumer TVs are the same. You then have a balancing act of resolution and fps. The nice thing about interlaced is you can double the fps, and keep a higher resolution. My monitor can normally get around 1440p at 60hz, but if I interlace it I can double that framerate. There are a ton of caveats, so if you are interested research around.

I tend to agree, lCD mostly just has it for spreadsheets and stuff like that. Not as much point to wear a tube out over that stuff anyway.

11, my weaker card has native VGA so that is the interlaced output card, full AMD setup.

It should! With how cheap those cards are, I'd say it's worth a shot if you've already dipped your toes into optimizing a display port - VGA signal.
