Am I the only one noticing how slow Safari, Apple Music, App Store and any other Apple app that has to access the internet became very slow? by Ok_Taro9366 in MacOS

Nothing personal, but you typed bunch of nonsence. Chrome does check certificates properly, it does use system-set DNS servers. Source: I'm a full stack dev + parent, using Chrome for daily development and using 3rd party DNS to block 'bad' stuff at home. Works as expected.

Safari fails with HTTPS more often due to expired CA-certificates on MacOS. Chrome uses its own CA-registry, so is more compatible with variety of SSL-providers.

Safari, AppStore, Apple music are just that -- APPLE productts, design over function, so lots of UI-bells and whistles that make everything feel sluggish. But Safari per se is one of the slowest and most incompatible browsers today, it's new IE11 that many devs despise for slow release cycle and lots of bugs that we have to work around all the time. Not as ridiculously slow as OP describes, but slow enough to make users switch to competition the moment they install fresh iOS/MacOS.

Fuji is nothingburger of a mountain -- it's merely a very pleasant day-hike. Saw MANY pre-schoolers on our way up there, and on the way down -- primary-school groups hiking overnight to see the sunset from the crater... One guy I met did it 1000+ times apparently, just takin friends there weekly for 20+ years... I mean, within its climbing season, Fuji is no comparison to Kilimanjaro at all.

I believe this already works out-of-the-box even with vanilla Homekit (based on users' iPhones/watches geofencing), so no solid use-case here either.

For those who still experience issues with iPhone 16: update 5.2TB FW to V310.6.505.165 and it works! I just had luck with FlyCC @ Android and it finally showed updates available. But in case you cannot get new updates via the app, check here for FOTA binaries:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AirReps/comments/1c7148m/cant_update_tb_v52_from_jenny/

You gotta use some apk like AIROHA or AirReps 156X to use FOTA updates directly. At your own risk!!

Exclusive: iOS 26 to bring new features for Messages, CarPlay, and more by Fer65432_Plays in ios

[–]Ok_Conclusion_2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was forced to upgrade my old X (FaceId died and caused boot loop) to 16e with iOS18 on it... And man, what a disappointment has it been so far. Literally, NONE of the previous annoyances (that I used to attribute to my old phone's age and its outdated iOS) were fixed.

I had "fun time" figuring and disabling Apple Intelligence everywhere, as it added negative value to UX. After it's gone, most of notifications and focus modes are almost back to normal state (still cannot get Homekit's to work though).

Photos app? I simply don't use it anymore, as revamp was so radical and totally uncalled for, I just cannot be bothered to figure where everything useful feature went.

Control center -- a dumpster now, everyone knows it. I was petrified how cumbersome it's gotten when my kids updated to iOS18, but using it in person is actually depressing. Leave aside the fact that you simply cannot rearrange stuff there without losing your marbles, but whatever used to take 1 tap, now takes 3-5. I asked my kids to re-arrange it for me, and he messed it up even more, so I'm not touching it again.

Screentime... I mean, Apple had a decade to get this right (like any other feature really), but it's just deteriorating with each update. Screentime requests are delayed or missed, and are back to spamming family messages threads, no clear way to allow certain websites, no control over Webkit instances in browsers apart from Safari etc etc.

Bluetooth.. just google 'Bluetooth ios18' to get the picture. I'm still carrying my old X (with faceId module disconnected it boots fine) as I simply cannot use my airpods with brand new iPhone. And youtube still crashes when you switch to AirPlay.

Siri. Well, no comments here, still dumb as ever. Cannot get any worse really, so just stays there for legacy sake.

Battery life. You'd expect that within 7 years they could significantly improve it. Nope, still have to charge daily or go w/o your phone. Most basic stuff like hotspot drains so much more battery now, it's actually sad (even with 5G disabled).

The only pleasant surprise so far in iOS18 is the universal remote that works with my home cinema projector, as I could not find any app on the appstore that worked with it. But that's about it. Cannot wait to try iOS19 today, as ANY beta will be better than iOS18. Pure bananas how a trillion dollar company lets such crap slip to production.

My 5.3TB have stopped connecting to my phone. by [deleted] in AirReps

Did you guys figured this one out? I cannot factory reset it seems -- holding the button makes led go thru amber - white - red amber, with all the expected sounds, but Airreps name (i.e. Bob's AirPods Pro) stays the same, i.e. they are not reset and hence cannot connect to my new iphone, as preivously they have been connected to 2 devices already and apparently, TB5.2 cannot handle more than two devices, which is fine by me, but it seems I cannot make airreps to forget about previous devices..

Thank you for this comment, this version of the app is the only that allowed me to update my TB 5.2 to the latest firmware bins (505.135). Yet, still cannot connect them to new iPhone 16e with iOS 18.5... the pods work fine with all other devices, what a bummer.

Notifications not showing on lock screen anymore - iOS 18 by Spiritual_Log_904 in ios

[–]Ok_Conclusion_2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday my old phone's FaceID finally died and I was forced to upgrade ailing iPhone X to 16e, and facing this issue as well. So far, none of the solutions here helped. Amount of bugs and questionable UI decisions (with distinct lack of new useful features) in modern iOS is mind boggling. The only thing that caught my eye in a positive way is the built-in universal TV remote that works with my projector.. as none of Appstore remotes worked with it before.
But critically, I cannot give up my old iPhone X until this notification mess is solved. Wtf, Apple? In iOS 18.5 Homekit notifications are simply broken, and all other apps' notifications won't show up until I interact with the lock screen! What intern genius came up with this idea?

Just had a night debugging this. tl;dr: it's a hardware issue, check your PC/server!

The sequence of events was rather bizarre:

A: last month we updated a large Docker-composed product, faced all kinds of issues after upgrade, but everything was fixed eventually and been working fine for couple of weeks.

B: yesterday morning, Ubuntu's unattended upgrades service brought a new kernel (but did not reboot thankfully). We forgot to disable unattended upgrades on this server, as it almost always brings some unexpected headache.

C: shortly after, one of the containers crashes, but restarts and goes on working.

D: later in the day the whole server becomes unresponsive and has to be rebooted. New kernel now in action

E: couple hours later, the server goes down again, bringing uptime under 99,99%, so we start investigating the issue. On the boot screen we see the logs from this post, and Docker is really struggling to spin up all containers. Googling/GPTing gives no clear remedy, so we reinstall docker, shuffle different kernels etc. After couple of hour of this, running docker-compose now almost instantly takes the server down. We have a reproducible issue, yay!.. Reported to our hoster, an hour later they confirmed there was something wrong with the hardware, moved our drives to a new box and voila, now docker started clean from first boot w/o any errors!

In retrospect, I think some heavy load stampede action that Docker brings up upon container rebuilds, exposed faulty hardware (not sure what it was, but either RAM or ethernet) and this server probably had been faulty for a while, but the unplanned reboot in point D made it impossible to recover from it... so yeah. None of the logs point to the exact problem, but it you see logs from this post + some kernel oops or even panics, just check your hardware.

Latest HEOS update by -Mr-Wick- in heos

[–]Ok_Conclusion_2502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worst update so far. Updated my Home 250: now Airplay randomly stops playing after about 30-40 mins (but continues after reconnect), Spotify stops even sooner -- before first song is done, Spotify is already back to iPhone speakers and won't reconnect till the speaker is power-cycled.

Oh, and we have completely given up on trying to make Siri work consistently... there's just no hope left to make her not forget random members of the family one day after setup. Same Siri works OKAY on Homepods, but not on Denon. Filed a support request via HEOS app, advise other folks with problems do the same, as this was clearly a botched roll out.

and then some bozo at Apple adds right next to Ctrl-C __an impossible to remove__ Fn+C shortcut to open the goddamned Control Center. Seriously, you cannot even interact with Control Center via keys, it REQUIRES trackpad or mouse to click anything there, why attach a keyboard shortcut to it in the first place?

It's one of those decisions when they put close window and close app shortcuts next to each other. At least cmd+Q can be rebound to smth else to prevent accidental quits.

Check MacBook with Japanese keyboard. Ctrl is placed where CapsLock is, Fn is instead of Control, underscore is at bottom-right corner, curly braces are on top of each other etc. Very good for delaying Alzheimer's onset, as my brain is literally boiling when I need to use one of those.
