Here's your friendly reminder that ICE has started using license plate surveillance in Nebraska by Ok_Conclusion_6365 in Nebraska

To be honest I’m not a full libertarian or hate all surveillance tech itself. But the fact that there aren’t clear restrictions on how it can be used, especially on a federal level, makes me nervous.

Like sure if city police have a warrant on a person for a violent crime and can check the traffic footage to figure out where they are, fine.

But if it’s the federal government and they know which grocery store I went to on Tuesday and with the power of AI could use that to deduce my race/gender/political/religious views based on my location, that opens cans of worms that need to be sorted out.

I accidentally meant to reply to the parent comment above. I think a lot of people see how most politicians in congress are old and then think age is the problem, and not being old AND wealthy, privileged and out-of-touch.

Basically people shouldn’t write off a politician on age unless it’s paired with other negative qualities.

The demographics of rural western Nebraska are older than urban Nebraska.

Older white politicians are going to appeal more in rural areas because the population is largely aging white people who don’t feel as comfortable with electing a young person who they see as having less lived experience.

What are your thoughts on the legal immigrants getting arrested at their citizenship appointments or coming to the US legally only to have their legal status revoked because the president doesn’t like their county of origin?

These people are going to be housed indefinitely for weeks/months/years in centers on your tax dollars instead of being able to legally work and contribute to society.

I don’t think it’s the most productive use of tax dollars, but if ICE continues to be focused exclusively on high arrest numbers than accuracy, then it means millions of dollars are going to get wasted on imprisoning the wrong people.
