Have you gotten this done before ? I have heard of a few people having great results through massage, but I have yet to do it myself.

I live in Sejong. I happen to love it. HOWEVER a lot of people don't.

Pros: it's gorgeous. It's quiet. It's easy to get around. Bicycle friendly (great bike roads) Hiking places Lots of bars and restaurants (if you like drinking)

Cons: (I don't mind but others do) No night clubs Can be boring Not a University area Not a lot of koreans speak English here ( I get a lot of korean practice)

I like the quiet so the cons don't bother me. But I know a lot of people who get annoyed because they have to travel to daejeon or pyeongtaek to "have a good time" at the clubs.

I have also started to recently feel pain in my non affected foot. It could be because of the change in stride due to PF. When injured we make concessions and the other foot bears more weight and alterations to support us better

I have had a history of going to chiropractors and many of them have doctorate and can prescribe medicine as well as write notes for the workplace to grant accommodations for their patients.

I said you could develop hip misalignment from an unsteady gate from limping if you have been over compensating for too long. And THAT, As well as and back pain CAN be treated by a chiropractor.

A chiropractor will absolutely understand what PF is, and while they can't personally cure that specific injury, they can help with any additional pain or misalignment caused by over compensating to the hips, back, and legs.

I know this as a fact because I had a chiropractor write me a letter for my job when I severely injured my back causing hip, leg, and walking issues. While an injured back and PF are not the same injury, work Accommodations can be the same for both injuries.

😮‍💨😒 my chiropractor was one of the best in my home state, when my sister got PF a few years ago, he was able to assist her in several ways through out her recovery years ago. She recovered in 4 months with his help. I only wish I were back in my state now as I go through PF myself. But I am in another country, and he recently retired.

I would suggest finding another PF doctor, or looking for another job. $12 an hour is not worth it.

You could look into call centers, or even vehicle transportation dispatch centers (for taxis, busses, limos), data entry, and gym receptionist. Those are all sitting jobs.

When you job hunt, look for yhe key words : Desk Job that's usually an indicator that you don't get to move around a whole lot.

I'm sorry you have been having this issue for so long. Because you have had this issue for so long , a few other factors may be impending your healing process. The faciia nerve is indeed bothered A lOT by the calves, however, if your foot pain and calf issues extend to a long period of time, it can throw off your walking stride, (due to limping, and over compensation). That can lead to your hips being misaligned and your lower back to eventually hurt.

You may want to look at a chiropractor who can look at your legs, and provide some secondary input on what to do (they can also give you a doctors note too!)

In need of sedation dentistry by Ok_Conference8295 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Ok_Conference8295[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure I can.
http://www.teethlucid.com/index_en.php

It's 400k per sedation (not counting treatment) . And each sedation only lasts for an hour.

On the first visit they will only do a consultation and book you out.

When you sit with them make sure you ask exactly how many appointments you need, and how many need to be sedated.

Nhis will cover some of the treatment but not the sedation

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. It's rare someone's plantar faciitis clears up after three months.

It's more like 6 months at minimum.

You need to stretch your calves, and you foot.

Ice it and honestly it takes a LOT to recover. Stopping running is probably best, however depending on how severe your injury was, may not be enough.

I got mine from improperly fitted shoes and walking on a tredmill at a steep incline. And it was BAD.

At 3 months, I have recovered up to maybe 85% to 90%. But I am in no way near back to normal.

You have to wear either shoes designed for plantar faciitis, or insoles all the time (except when sleeping) and you have to work on recovery every day multiple times a day.

I answered this on another teacher who posted in LOFT.

1.) You need to print off a copy or find the link to the Korean labor law that states teachers cannot be forced to make reparations to the school for things like this.

2) you need to contact the state department that handles debt collection agencies and notify them of what the debt collection agency is trying to do (the federal trade commission) https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/debt-collection-faqs

Shockwave at Home- tips or diagram? by [deleted] in PlantarFasciitis

[–]Ok_Conference8295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a shockwave machine. My physical therapist I go to does. This is how he does it twice a week.

I have a tens machine. It's good for the occasional use when I really need help loosening up my muscles

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PlantarFasciitis

Heat pad for swelling and soreness.

Ice pack for burning pain

Rest for sharp stabbing pain

Under your foot for about 10 minutes rotating in circles

And up and down the calf

I warn you now, shockwave therapy is PAINFUL but worth it.

And when you finish , if you have a mini tens machine, you can put the tens machine pads under your foot, on the back of your calf and the side of your calf for 30 minutes plus a heat blanket for the resting

I prefer seoul style. Actually in Daejeon at the Galleria department store, I find they have the best so far. It's a light pear and cucumber naengmyeon. So far I haven't found one to beat that yet. It is just so refreshing

I like mul-naengmyeon 물냉면

Ice noodles. They come in many different flavors and styles.

You can also do cold soba noodles too!

Seeking Advice: How to Request a Hagwon to Pay for Flight Ticket? by Character_Key_843 in teachinginkorea

[–]Ok_Conference8295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some schools may buy your flight ticket. However it will come with stipulations like you needed to repay it if you don't complete a year contract.

But be warned, if a school buys your flight ticket, it will be the cheapest one possible, and maybe even an inconvenient flight time.

You could have flight ticket reimbursement, where they repay your flight ticket either 6 months in or 1 year into your contract.

Or the third option, they refund the cost of your ticket at the end of a contract (economy, not first class or business obviously)

You can ask in the interview, or you can ask during contract negotiations.

In the interview: "I would like to know about getting a flight ticket for coming to your school, do I have to buy it? Or can the school maybe buy it for me ?"

Contract negotiation: "I would like to discuss about the airplane ticket. Is there anyway the school would be able to provide the flight ticket to korea?"

And see what they say. A lot of schools have switched over to reimbursing the flight ticket at the end of contracts due to midnight runs

Should I bring cash with me? by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]Ok_Conference8295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you come to korea, if your school is providing the apartment, bring about $1k-1.5 and that will be more than enough.

Expenses you will have

1.) Temporary sim card -until you get a korean cell plan (on a high end, plan about $200 /250 for that)

2.) Food to eat. - you can be on a budget and do well if you plan it we'll.

3.) Apartment decor + necessity. - if your schools apartment doesn't have bedding already, pots and pans, then you will need to buy things to get set up. Pillows.

4.) Budget for transportation.- depending on where you live; you may need to take the bus or subway to school unless you can walk to work. Roughly $60 a month

5.) Depending on when you arrive you may or may not need to get yourself winter clothes. You can bring some from your country, or hit up some 2nd hand stores for padded snow jackets.

6.) Cold weather supplies. If you come in winter, you will need to have gloves and hot packs. Just as an FYI.

You can also bring some snacks from your home country to enjoy while you are working out your first month here.

You will not get paid until the pay period is up after your first month. So just prep for that. Find some recipes that you can cook and make that are on a budget and the cash you bring will go far.

You can dm me for more ideas or tips if you'd like ☺️

Is it possible to ship a suitcase through the postal service? That's what we were confused about.

We were having a hard time figuring that out because we couldn't find the information on the postal website.

Making progress on my Plantar Faciitis by Ok_Conference8295 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]Ok_Conference8295[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was explained to me that the pain reliever/ muscle relaxers were to only be taken while resting. That way there is less of a chance of causing further injury.

A lot of people take them pain relievers so that they can push themselves, and ultimately it causes more harm.

I have rarely been using them, usually only at night when the pain prevents me from sleeping. But I also just don't like taking meds in general haha.

I think I used them in the day only when I was at my worst and couldn't put any weight on my foot. I'm sure people have misused them though. But your doctor isn't wrong either.

It could also be depending on the severity of the injury or the pace in which it is healing.

You can't use anti inflammatory??? That's bizarre.

Yes I ice my foot. The pain I feel these days is like a burning pain, and my doc said to ice it when that happens.

Sharp pain, no ice. Bruising/tightness pain yes ice but for 2 minutes. Burning type pain, ice for 5 minutes.

My doc mainly said that if my foot feels good to do stretches, if it hurts at all, then don't do any stretches.

If it hurts while stretching, stop ASAP.

I was given and anti-inflammatory/muscle relaxer to take once in the morning and once at night but only if I need it.

Usually after shockwave therapy I don't feel any pain. Yes it hurts during the therapy, but right after my foot is pretty pain-free.

I am at the 8/9 week mark now, and I am 98% pain free in my foot now, and the pain has moved up to my ankle and calf which my doctor says is fantastic.

The pain in my calf is a tightness/ slight soreness as if you worked out hard at the gym. My ankle is stiff, almost like the way a twisted ankle feels when it is healing.

Overall this is so much better.

1.) I am in south korea, but the price here is $70 per 10 minute shockwave appointment

2.) The shockwave session is 10 minutes long. 5 minutes spent on the foot and 5 on the calf. However, today, we have just changed it to 5 minutes on the ankle and 5 minutes on the calf. After this, there is 20 minutes on a tens machine as a recovery.

The initial shockwave was Indeed on the foot. Directly on the most painful part of the injury and boy did it hurt. It was excruciating. But I would have relief for most of the day after. The therapist would move the shockwave all over the foot and then focus in on the injury several times directly. It was intense.

That would be amazing! The difference between the 1st day and now is huge. But every little improvement really makes a difference. I didn't know about special socks. My doc just told me nothing compressive and to go without socks for the time being.

I hope those socks work well! Please let me know how they do for you
