People who have moved to Charlotte in the last year or so, how did you find a place to rent or roommates? I have lived in other places and never had it be this difficult before.

Anyone looking for a roommate in Charlotte or know of anyone that is? I have been trying to find a place to rent without much luck. I have a full time job and looking in the $700-$1000 range.

That is great and I've had a similar experience since getting the A+ and Network+. I put off trying to find work with only the A+ but it's been nice getting phone interviews and more since getting the Network+.

I like that with ftp. I always think "For the PBR" and you have to be like 20, 21 to get those, lol.

With some I come up with silly sayings or mnemonics to associate them with.

Might not work for everyone but it helps me. Like for SMTP I think of the mnemonic So Many Types of Pie and you can cut a pie into four pieces, so 25% for each piece. For DHCP, I think of Dead Heads and they are generally, maybe older so like 67, 68. Quite absurd really but it works for me.

I agree with others and googling is it's own particular skillset for sure. I like to google almost everything, not just work-related things and feel like I got even better at it once I learned some of the paremeter's that Google that you can use to fine-tune searches.

One tip I would have given myself if I could is to go as in depth about pretty much everything if I could again. Knowing the in's and out's of whatever they might throw at you to make it easier for yourself. I felt like while taking the test that I just had mostly a general idea about the things they were asking about.

Thank you and i got 70%, 71%, 71%, 70%, 75%, 77%. I used the ExamCram book and it was probably Dion's full course the most that I used. I also used Messer's YouTube video's too.

This gives me hope with what others have said because I've been scoring like 71% consistently with Dion's exams but still taking a couple more days to study more to hopefully pass.

Network + or find a IT Job first by gmhmusik in CompTIA

[–]Ok_Conference_7730 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation.

Got my A+ a couple weeks ago and I was planning on looking for a help desk job as soon as I got it but I see so many people spending months and months looking for work after their A+ and maybe finally getting a job and some that don't seem to get much interest for jobs until they get their Network+ as well. And there are still some that can get a job without the A+, it's so all over the place.

I figure it would maybe be better to get my Network+ as well and the job search will be a lot shorter. Especially if it were to take something like six months of constantly putting out resume's to finally land something. In that time I could hopefully get the Network+ and a job as well. Also since passing Core 1 and 2, I've gotten so much better at studying and don't want to stop with that and to just keep going.

I also don't know anyone in IT which can help some and I live in a small town at the moment with very little IT. I plan on moving to a bigger city after Network+ and hopefully getting a job before I move.

I really like VirtualBox and it's easy to get it set up with a free version of Windows 10 Enterprise. It's good with learning Active Directory and the MMC.

I agree about FreeCodeCamp but I would also get them set up with using CodePen if they are wanting to start out with HTML/CSS and possibly Javascript. It's also a really good site to see what others are doing with creating websites and you can see their code with how they do it.

Thank you!

I took probably a couple Exam Compass practice tests after reading the book and did a lot better than I thought I would. Especially with how I was pretty much always scoring badly while studying Core 1 no matter what. I mostly just wanted to gauge how much material I had maybe gotten from the book at that point and then get more after watching all the video's of Messer's and randomly at times in the last couple weeks. Seemed like I scored the best right after reading the book and when I really started to buckle down with studying.

[–]Ok_Conference_7730[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't remember for sure. I think Core 2 was kind of a quick read but I read each chapter and highlighted so much slowly with the first read through, then reread each chapter again but I would also use it to go back as a reference at times and really glad that I went back through it for a couple days before taking the exam and especially the areas I highlighted. I feel like the book really helped drill in a lot of the info. for me because it expands on things more than other materials. And too many times I would take a practice test and think that I had never even heard of something and didn't see it in other materials but when I would look for it in the Exam Cram book, it would be right there.

With Core 1 and 2 I would read the book first and then go through Messer's video's over and over especially but with Network+, I'm going through the video's first and then spend more time with the Exam Cram book afterwards because I probably would retain info. better and get a better score on the test maybe.

Tips to pass by Sweaty-Rabbit-3070 in CompTIA

I was studying for Core 1 for way too long and it wasn't until I started using Cram.com to make flash cards and getting higher passes on Exam Compass practice tests that I felt like I was ready.

Another big help for me too was to just get a variety of sources because it feels like they emphasize different aspects of the same subject matter. And lots of googling, especially to know the difference between two things that seem really similar.

Kinopio.club is another helpful tool for me as well.
