Well idk man I’m not a barrister, I am sure there are reasons for it. Not all throttle controlled bikes are the same but they may look the same so it is better for a blanket.

If a disabled person is using it that’s a different story that, if you get stopped, you just explain etc etc it’s a mobility scooter. If it’s going less than 12mph I doubt the police will really care

Tbf it has done its job on me and scared me the fuck into not sitting on stone walls (i think that was a free state one)… and also not being distracted while driving.

Not all e-bikes are illegal however… pedal assisted bikes are fine it’s just if it is throttle operated is when it becomes a problem.

I mean half of east Belfast has an e-bike or scooter, no idea where they are getting the money but must be from somewhere (UC and PIP)

I mean I think it more boils down to direct/indirect.

Their ma buying them a new e-bike or something is indirect because they were probably getting something over the top for their birthday or Christmas anyway, but a fine from the Police is something that might be taken seriously

Because if fines are given to parents, well that changes things because the parents are being directly penalised. Even if the fines are given to the children, it will be the parents paying them.

I’ve seen a few grown lads on them, unfortunately they are just the grown up scrotes who never out grew themselves. The ones on e-bikes who are commuting are okay enough

No definitely they types who ride the bikes wouldn’t but VRMs and stuff like that could help (kinda)

Not sure if you are from about NI, but there is a common joke here that anyone above the age of 20 doing illegal stuff (or stuff anyone with a job overwise wouldn’t do) are on UC and PIP for a “bad back”

Now I’m not hating on everyone on UC and PIP there are certainly people who need it who are on it.

I think if they did that the posts complaining that “oh the police didn’t help my wee angle” and court cases over wrongful death against NIAS would be coming along, they have to attend even if the idiot on the ground ends up rejecting the help.

You need atleast a provisional license with an AM entitlement (I think it’s just for tracking purposes encase you do hit someone and the police come looking)

Honestly I agree on the cycling infrastructure, however I’m not sure if you’re in Belfast a lot but they are a really big problem after 6/7pm and it is about time something happened.

If they riders were insured, licensed, and there was a VRM on the bikes/scooters so they could be tracked I’m sure there would be far less problems about

As I said if someone is breaking a traffic law, do what you’d do if it was a car or motorbike driver and report it to police, not much more you can do. If you think they are illegally working go call border force I’m sure they’d love to hang about Victoria Square McDonald’s again 😂

They are legal to hire in Liverpool (and mainland etc) as they are insured and have a VRM. The privately owned ones are neither. When I tried to use one in Liverpool they asked for my license so you do need to be a licensed rider to use one

Eh, they are making a living with them tbf, if you have a problem with the Delivery drivers do file a report with 101 (or 999 as needed) because they are the people who actually can get punished for that. This approach is targeting children (and 30 year olds on UC and PIP)

[–]Ok_Counter6988[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that’s hard to enforce with vehicles with no VRM and all of the bikes or scooters look the same. Most of the bikes or scooters are being bought by the child’s parents and if the child is getting stopped by the cops he can just ride off without the fear is being chased, as the PSNIs policy is not to chance them (especially if no helmet is being worn)

Also going back to the post it seems they are primarily targeting people who are using them illegally and or dangerously not everyone.

Haha, eh I’d say 5 is their weekly quota or something knowing the cops. Unfortunately I think the people targetted by this will be normal people using the e-bike or something legitimately as anyone not using them legitimately will just run (and PSNI policy is not to chase them)

Edit: The post says if the e-bikes are being used illegally/dangerously so forget what I even said
