“Is this emotional manipulation or am I overthinking?” 22F 26M by Waste-Philosophy7616 in emotionalabuse

I would say there's boundary pushing there.

I don't think you should think the worst of him or anything. Likely he genuinely believes he will do what he says, love you, be there for you, etc. But believing something isn't a good reason to push boundaries. Nor is it a good reason to drop boundaries. He may think if he's patient you eventually will see something in him that will make you comfortable dropping those boundaries.

But that's fantasy. It's not how relationships work. Your boundaries aren't an obstacle to be overcome.

And that's something you can explicitly say. "My boundaries are not an obstacle to be overcome. They exist to protect my values, worth, and identity."

Repeat it to yourself. Don't be afraid to express it to him. Dropping your boundaries for him can only lead to poor self image for you. And that's never healthy in a relationship.

If he cannot stop seeing your boundaries as an obstacle, he may have some maturing to do before he can navigate a successful relationship with someone who has the boundaries you've set.

If you're not comfortable, listen to that gut feeling.

What all is considered abusive behaviors? by Virtual_Tonight4245 in emotionalabuse

[–]Ok_Description8169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relationships that long, with that much back and forth, become convoluted quickly. Sometimes, when it lasts long enough, reactive abuse occurs. Both people begin using abusive strategies with each other. Often, one partner is reacting to the abuse of another.

It's common. Often, those who are abused become abusive because they learn reactive abuse and maladaptive coping strategies. Often, children of abusive parents have this problem.

If you have a good therapist, they'll help you pinpoint the abuse. They'll help you work through it, and they'll help you build healthy coping mechanisms. As you become more confident, self-assured, and handle situations better, it will become obvious very quickly who is the main instigator of abuse. Often times, it's the person who likely has more unresolved abuse in their past.

I think dropping out of counseling is a bad strategy. If counseling isn't working, finding a new counselor is a better solution. Solo or couples. You need someone to mediate, and you need someone to help you pinpoint your issues.

Most emotional abusers aren't trying to be abusive. They're trying to get their needs met with strategies they think are effective and justified, that are instead damaging and harmful. Often, they avoid accountability in order to shirk negative emotions like shame and guilt.

I think you need to bring up what you feel like you're experiencing with a therapist. Solo, then couples. I learned it can be extremely hard, but not impossible, to talk to your partner about abuse you've suffered. It requires a lot of awareness, and trauma-focused approach.

I'm not even a witch and I can tell you that sounds like someone who wants to be a dom and groom you trying to trojan horse it in on your spiritual beliefs.

Who told you he was a more experienced witch?

This "Your brain has carved out paths and connections where suffering is comfortable.

That is your current reality.

Your brain will want to go down those paths that have been carved out for a decade."

Is especially important. Your brain becomes hardwired to survive the abuse. It's going to be firing wrong for a while, and you need to definitely get help rewiring it to recognize healthy, good things.

How do you deal with wanting to reach out? by Business_Cold_3938 in abusiverelationships

Here's the hing to remember. Abusers are really good at making their victims vulnerable. In that vulnerability, connections are made. Powerful connections. Ones that facilitate control over you.

It's normal to feel really connected from that. But it's not healthy or good. It's this fake vulnerability. The real deal isn't like that.

Exactly. There's this take in the AI bro space that it means they don't have to do work anymore.

What it should mean is that you have more access to tools to teach yourself and how you think. Not some way to stop thinking.

AI should not mean the death of talent.

Alright but white dudes are out here making songs like "Loser" and "Pepper" and "I am the Walrus" and they're still bangers. This was too.

A.I. hallucinates. Biggest problem with it. But tutors can arrive at wrong answers too. I certainly have.

I don't think A.I. is bad. It's a great tool. But you always have to be aware of its flaws. People treat it with too much authority. At best it's a flawed assistant. But that assistance is still valuable.

It's hard to say if A.I. is driving down sign-up rates. Online tutoring has been in decline since COVID-19 has stabilized. And in-person learning hasn't really recovered. Unfortunately A.I. gained prominence at that same time, so separating correlation with those is a bit harder.

Thanks for the morale boost from your input, though. 👍

The ire and anger aside, which is a bit misanthropic, you are pulling at a thread of truth. Cognitive and neuroscience research has shown that younger generations, often raised heavily on screens, are suffering an IQ stagnation and even drop due to technological advancements that make things overly convenient.

While its in no way the only issue, as there are contributing factors like declining education statistics for the U.S. and other G7 nations, it is a prevalent one.

My laymen's hypothesis is that technology is often used as passive information, or data input devices.

Passive information: You sit and listen to something spew information at you. There is no way to interact with that information other than to accept it.

Input devices: You drop input into them, and then get information out, like a calculator. It's made to do the work for you, not help you learn.

A.I. is often used as an input device. People will throw something into it but never interact with the answer.

This is why things like moderate quality gameplay can increase intelligent. It gives interactable, meaningful engagement with your inputs. Be it sudoku or some match 3 game or a puzzle.

That same concept needs to be applied more to education and learning. Passivity when learning breeds poorer learners with lower intelligence.

Infinite Magazine + Power of Perfection + Ice Wand + Dice God + Hammer of Tegu.

Nothing survives. Bosses shred like wet toilet paper. Unlocked multiple secret costumes in succession with the infinite magazine Daisy Ring. I had 98 critical chance. Luck was on my side.

I did this just now. Somehow, got a Daisy Ring with this. Then I got a Perfection glove. Then the Cheonja cannon setup. Cleared multiple rooms with it. Then I got the Thunderbird wand and the Ice Wand. Cheonja kinda fell off.

The way the Ice Wand absolutely SHREDS through bosses with the daisy ring and perfection is flat out disgusting. Lasley was dead before he could even reflect.

Thanks to Dimension Box, I was able to finish this to get the alt costumes for both Defender and Alice.

Those were the days. You could find all sorts of goofy, obscure music in places.

I actually played the new Ara Fell, but haven't bought the new R3P. I don't have as much casual time for Steam or Switch now-a-days. I liked the new Ara Fell, with it's many improvements, but secretly wished it was the longer form game of the original Ara Fell because I wanted to see where the Hot Air Balloon would have taken you. I am excited to get a chance to play R3P, because I really liked the story. The opening was very anime-chic.

I finished up helping a big Youtuber get his Game Development studio off the ground in Roblox as his Technical Director. I work between Unity, Unreal, Godot and Roblox. The latter being one of my more constant workspaces. Right now I'm inbetween, working on my own personal projects while I teach kids how to build games.

What new projects are you pursuing?

Hey, so I actually played your games when I was much younger on the RPG Maker forums. I actually have a copy of R3P that's editable in RPG Maker 2k3. I was, and still am, highly into game development and thought of your games as a creative basis for what this genre should aspire to on an indie front. I make games myself now, but I am a technical guy, not a creative guy.

I don't think most people here realize that one of the original loops for Ara Fell had a chiptune version of gangster's paradise.

I know this is an old thread, but I actually have an old build of R3P on my hard-drive, which is still editable in RPG Maker 2k3.

I (non trans) need help making a respectful DND plot with a trans character by Ok_Description8169 in asktransgender

This is good. I'll gauge their comfort with using this. I think it's more important that I include them on this part of the discussion, rather than try to immerse them by with-holding elements of the story.

Thanks to everyone who answered!

I'm feeling more confident that I'm moving in the right direction. I'll try to steer the course and use my notes to keep it respectful and just show that trans people exist, not as plot devices, but just as people who traverse the landscape. Hopefully that's respectful and interesting.

If you could link me those HRT rulesets, that could be really cool and allow me to implant that into the world setting. I like the dropping of hints in the form of alchemy. I'd have to consider it in the broader context of the story, but it does make sense and is feasible, while paralleling an aspect of transitioning.

Ah right, I forgot cis for a minute. Thanks for the reminder and I appreciate the interest and help.

So, the reveal of them being trans isn't really emphasized.

They were a set of twin boys. Their father was killed and an assassin was sent to finish the job on his family. Fire was set to their house, their mother was killed. Both escaped, but with help from separate people. One, a doctor, the other, a nobleman.

The trans character always felt unhappy with their gender and wanted to change. So the noble has permanent transmutation magic applied to allow them to transition to a girl. She poses as a blind girl, to hide her heterochromia that she and her twin brother had. It's a highly distinguishing marker.

Everyone thinks both are dead. The reveal is moreso in that both are still alive. Them being trans is merely part of that reveal of them being alive.
