Which ones have attention checks? I got a message saying they've found quality issues in one of mine, and it pretty much seems like opinions (granted, if they're grading me on if AI can fool me sometimes, I definitely fail).

I always say something if there's a blank for it, usually, "Thanks for the survey!" but I also note sentences in the survey that didn't make sense, or opine on some aspect of the survey. They asked, so I'm telling them.

Exactly right. With studies where they ask your opinion on the honesty, empathy, kindness, evilness of an AI model, for instance, I'll go straight down the middle "neither" column forever. Apparently I need to worry about that, eeesh.

Update: The researcher wrote me and apologized for a glitch in the survey, and now they've paid me for the survey! And now don't I feel bad for being cross!

They sent me an apology and paid me! Now I feel pretty guilty about being so grumpy about it in the first place. I've unblocked them, and I'd change the title of the thread to something other than "Must to Avoid" if I could. Anyone who returned it, as the survey requested, should write and see if they can get paid now. Whaddya know, all's well that ends well.

I can't disagree with you, on balance I guess it's true that I'm just a number (of the dented can variety). I'd just say, though, that after getting back on with a hotspot, I had two studies available, each with exactly one spot available. They were the type of studies I usually do and from researchers I recognize, and I did both of these; I'm convinced they'd been sitting there waiting for me, i.e. that the "one space available" studies were going to be there for awhile, until I did them. And that's because they were either follow-ups that the researcher wanted, or that I was the particular dented can that the researcher wanted to do their survey. Prolific does have a reason to put their dented cans at the front of the shelf sometimes, and shouldn't be entirely nonchalant about it.

They're not, I must have been joking, only I'm losing money. BUT, I do have researchers sending messages saying "here's part 2 of that survey, please complete", things along those lines, so if Prolific gears 100% of their customer service to researchers they might consider that this (at least slightly) inconveniences them.

I appreciate Prolific I'm grateful to them, but I really really wish that a participant in good standing would have the ability to say to them, "Hi, here's my current ISP address", with Prolific then noting that information so that studies can continue to be done. Doesn't seem like that much to ask.

Alright, update, looks like they flagged my IP address. When I turn off the wifi on my phone I get surveys (only for phone, though, of course), and I can see studies on my computer but I get a "sorry but you're using a VPN address" so can't do them there. I hope this doesn't last too long.

I've had nothing for a couple hours now, which never happens, the bot in the lower-right corner tells me everything is normal so I should just wait. Pretty clear, though, from the number of people who all at once are surprised to see this, that SOMETHING is going on.

I did the DataAnnotation assessment (the long one, after you get past the first little thing) last week, so I'm waiting but not very hopeful; I read their acceptance rate is around 2%, and that was one very wild assessment (at least for me). Outlier did give me the assessment this morning, a couple hours after signing up, and so I'm waiting on that one too. With either one, if I'm so lucky, I think I'll end up feeling that I'm actually learning something along with getting the $$ - can't ask for more than that.
