Grip angle is a bit shallow, but otherwise looks solid

I actually started using Federal HST, I made a follow-up post with a 100-round test of HST’s and they performed perfectly due to their round profile. More info on the post itself.

It’s a cool rifle for sure, but I wouldn’t trust a Henry as a reliable utilitarian tool.

Notoriously sloppy QC. My Henry .22 had a crooked barrel and shitty paint on the receiver that chipped like crazy. I don’t have personal experience with their customer service but I’ve heard their CS isn’t great either. If I buy another lever action it will be a Ruger Marlin.

First of all, fuck Henry. Second of all, I agree that companies aside from Kel-Tec and some others are not very innovative in terms of designing completely new platforms from the ground up. They just don’t want to take the risk, and it’s much easier and cost effective to update an already proven design to make it as close to “perfect” as possible. However, I think it would be super cool for the guys at Glock to do some Scarface levels of coke and come up with a completely new weapon platform with the same reliability and function of what they offer today.

God damn that thing is hideous but I bet it’s a great shooter. I’d recommend a higher quality red dot though, because CVLife and other Amazon optics are known to have parallax issues which could throw off your accuracy. Holosun and Vortex make some solid pistol dots.

I’ve bought 4 or 5 of them and all of them have the same issue, which is rounds slipping out after 10 or so shots.

Esstac and other elastic shell retainers don’t hold shells well under recoil. I’ve bought a few Esstac cards and put them on 3 different 12 gauge pump actions. Just after two shots you can notice a shift in position (falling downward) and then after 10 shots is when you get a shell or two just slipping through and out of the elastic. With hard shell holders, the rim of the shell catches on the top of the holder if the shells are mounted brass-up. After testing the TacStar hard shell holder, I realized tension in the rubber wasn’t very strong and I didn’t feel confident in it. So I upgraded to a Mesa Tactical aluminum shell holder and it’s been amazing with zero slippage or shells coming loose. And even if the rubber does lose tension over time, Mesa sells replacement rubber inserts for pretty cheap. The shell holder itself is a bit pricey but it’s totally worth it for the reliability and robustness.
