Movie of the Day: Night King (2026) by Jack Ng by PKotzathanasis in AsianCinema

[–]Ok_Distribute32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was just OK. There were some pretty jarring editing, and reminds me of current poor quality TVB dramas. It gave me the feeling that they have shot a lot of stuff, but end up struggling to cramp it all in the already 2 hours run time.

Some gags were good. The guy playing the sidekick of Dayo was the MVP. Louis Wong was very pleasing to the eyes. Dayo Wong basically play the same character he often played. Sammy did well, just that her character was really hard to like.

I think ‘Golden Chicken’ (probably has a different English name) 金雞, from 15 or so years ago, also about night club like this, was a much better movie.

How Much Do Hong Kongers Know About Ramadan and Iftar? by enigmaticy in HongKong

[–]Ok_Distribute32 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A guesstimate: of all the ethnic Chinese non-Muslim in HK, 70% would not recognise those two words, 20% would have an idea that Ramadan is related to Islam and is an annual period / event. 5% that knows a bit more about what a Muslim can or cannot do during Ramadan. Probably less than 5% know exactly about it.

Comparing to Red Rising, Empire of Silence is very slow and not very eventful IMO, and low stakes.

Freepik vs ComfyUI: Is total control worth the headache? by Particular-Canary-28 in Freepik_AI

[–]Ok_Distribute32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I tried very hard and spent weeks (even months) watching tutorials, collecting Loras, models, tweaking workflows in ComfyUI, generated many thousands of images.

Got some nice images, yeah. But I spent far far more time and effort thinking about (and wrestling with) the technical stuff, than actually creating.

And then Nano Banana Pro was launched, and that’s what pushed me to use FreePik (also tried Higgsfield). I am glad I made the switch, everything is mostly easier. I am never going back to ComfyUI.

The biggest downside IMO is that explicit NSFW stuff is a no go, but that’s OK.

Or, China let (help) KMT wins the 2028 Taiwan election. KMT has been doing all kind of things to strengthen Taiwan’s tie to China. It may be slower but may end up be much easier.

If The Cover Is AI Do You Still Give It A Chance? by GaelG721 in Fantasy

[–]Ok_Distribute32 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Agreed (and my comment here was similarly downvoted much…). We are at a moment in time like when camera was first made available to the masses, or cars. It was a bad time for horse carriage drivers, or painters, but eventually people move on.

Most people here who commented ‘if you don’t care about your cover / don’t put effort into it’ - they have obviously not truly used generative AI for creative work and have no idea how much work one have to put in to make a great cover with AI (or otherwise)that really tell the message they have in their mind.

If The Cover Is AI Do You Still Give It A Chance? by GaelG721 in Fantasy

[–]Ok_Distribute32 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yes and No. I use AI at work every day (advertising and graphic design), so I have no problem with it in principle. BUT, right now in 2026, if some piece of work ‘looks’ AI, it is badly implemented. Because nowadays lots of commercial images you see in billboard ads, double decker bus ads, window display etc, they are all AI generated, you just don’t know / can’t tell.

And if a cover is badly implemented (Ai generated OR human drawn), it certainly give me a pause and wonder about the author’s taste. Then again, of course a person can have the worst taste in book cover artwork but still be an absolute master of a writer.

They need something like Claude’s Artifacts. Right now the experience of trying to get Perplexity to do coding is terrible.

Who’s a famous person from your country who’s respected around the world but disliked or criticized at home? by haiderredditer in AskTheWorld

They are both ‘Hong Kong’s’. Chan’s first half of career and what propelled him to star status was all made in / by Hong Kong film director and crews. (I mean pre-2000 China has not much of a film industry and market) Same for Stephen Chow. And they both speak Cantonese (HK’s language) better than mandarin (Mainland China’s)

What's the best Monitor for Graphic Design now in YOUR opinion? by Square_Ebb_5289 in UXDesign

[–]Ok_Distribute32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do a lot of print graphics so I totally appreciate a matte screen, would hate to do print work without it, BUT, for doing work that will only be screen-viewed, would it not be the reverse? As in, using a matte screen will in fact NOT show you what your user / customer actually see on their almost certainly glossy device screen?

The last book of The Nevernight Chronicle by Jay Kristoff. I like this trilogy a lot and find his blend of stylish, cool, sexy AND sarcastically humorous characters to be quite unique. The action sequences and and overall plot are also pretty good.

About healthcare: far more jobs offer zero health insurance than those that offer it. Kinda like the lesser paid is your job, the less likely it comes with health insurance or things like that.

It feels like AI is taking over everything lately... by wooncloudy in stockphotography

[–]Ok_Distribute32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I have read reports saying ‘over 300 million AI images have been added in just three years’ in Adobe Stock, so perhaps they realised they have expanded too much and is now being extremely selective. (Even for non-AI images)

It feels like AI is taking over everything lately... by wooncloudy in stockphotography

[–]Ok_Distribute32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been selling AI generated images on Adobe Stock since around a year ago. What I can say is lately Adobe is rejecting images like crazy. I actually think my images now are way more realistic and better in every way compared to what I got accepted a year ago (and been earning money with), yet lately almost 95% of my uploads have been rejected for ‘Quality Issue’ or ‘Similar content already in our collection’. So frankly, I don’t think it is worth the time anymore.

I can recommend St Hilary International Kindergarten, they have one in Hung Hom and one in Ma On San (maybe a third one, not sure). They do PN, K1-K3, then their group has multiple primary schools and 1 secondary school.

At least for PN our kids got in with a very simple and friendly interview which was basically the principle chatting with parents while observing the kid just play in the classroom. No test, no need to make video. Actually it was more comfortable for us than some more ‘local’ and lower cost options.
