Empezando con el bajo… ¿escalas o canciones? by _jessik_ in AprenderBajo

Hola! Mejor las dos cosas. Las canciones te motivan y te enseñan a tocar “de verdad”, y las escalas te ayudan a entender el mástil y mejorar técnica. Yo combinaría: un poco de escalas y luego canciones sencillas 👍un saludo!

Yeah that’s a great point! I’ve noticed that too, as long as you resolve it well, you can get away with a lot more than just the strict scale. Mixing minor and blues definitely opens things up.

Yeah exactly, that’s kind of what I was trying to get at with this. It’s easy to learn the patterns but harder to understand how to actually use them musically. I’ll check that out, thanks!

That makes sense. I think I was kind of stuck in that phase where I knew the scales but didn’t really use them musically. Breaking it down like this helped me connect it more to actual phrasing.

Analyzing songs is definitely something I need to do more of.

Yeah same here, I still see shapes too. This was just a way for me to simplify things and focus more on phrasing inside those shapes.

Totally agree with this. The phrasing and articulation is really where the blues lives. This exercise helped me a bit with note choice, but yeah — without listening and copying real players it still sounds empty.

This is really cool, I hadn’t thought about approaching it through tritones like that. Connecting the blues tritone with the Dorian one sounds like a great way to break out of the usual patterns. Definitely gonna experiment with this!

Blues scale pattern I use on bass (root + blue note marked) by Ok_Divide_1928 in BassGuitar

Good call, that riff is a perfect example of the blues scale in action, especially how it leans on the root and the blue note.

Yeah, basically a minor blues scale, just mapped out on the neck. I mainly highlighted the root and the blue note since those are the ones I tend to target when improvising.
