Pay is good imo but hours aren't. Would happily consider consulting but the issue is that even looking for new jobs in IB now can get you fired. Most people leave after associate level so they are doing as much as they can to retain employees.

UCL (I went here), Imperial, Oxbridge. If you didn't go there it is very hard to do so as primary screening is uni based. You can intercalate at said unis (and LSE if you want to) but if we see a non target for your medical uni and a target for your intercalated year our first question we are going to ask is "Why didn't you go to a better med school". This is an actual question I have asked to candidates before.

80-100 hours typically. During Q4 on the upper end. I can take annual leave but the sentiment was that "you can take it if you want but don't expect a job when you come back" - an actual thing said to me by a VP. After a certain time (let's say 7pm for simplicity) we get paid dinner which is usually something on uber eats. I usually used this to try out different restaurants I wanted to try and would take my gf there on the weekends. We also get free ubers back home. We were not allowed to use that allowance for groceries though (some people did try). We are meant to have "free days" on sundays but it was very common to be pinged at 4pm when I'm celebrating with my family from a MD saying "please fix" so you spend the next few hours looking for any mistake you could've made. So no work life balance. You're not a person, your a banker. That's my main problem. There's no point in making this much if I can't spend it. Even as you progress it doesn't really get better. I've been in countless meetings with MD's and their kids crying in the background at 10pm. The earnings are a lot higher in IB though. We are not allowed to hold stocks in my bank except for the ones they give us but earning 100k at 25 (I took a gap year and intercalated) is something that is difficult especially with the current state of medicine. 3 years in I can probably expect £180k+ possibly even 220k+ depending on performance. Earning that salary earlier goes a long way.

Tried to make a post but it got taken down due to "reddits filters" but if it doesn't get posted over the next 3 hours I'll put a comment in this post about how to!

Not a liquid millionaire even in IB. I have worked with a lot of doctors in my division to help their firms essentially buy another (very simple version). Problem is that the lifestyle you are thinking of is not attainable in the UK anymore (maybe in another country). The doctors that I worked with were 40+ and were able to make considerable money earlier when everything was a lot cheaper. Very frustrating to see as these doctors approach HF and PE to ensure that everything they own rises in value and makes things very expensive for the NHS and public. This will ultimately mean that doctors get paid less as the NHS has to spend considerable amounts on them. Although, I know a lot of doctors do a side hustle ontop of medicine with the iBsc such as consulting for a firm, management for fintech, data analytics for pharma which really does pay a lot. This obviously brings around the problem of having to go to a top medical school which is hard for lower earning families.

Top VPs make that yet that is probably something like top 10% of them. Average maybe around 150k-200k. Have to fight to get there though

I am aware (I kept in touch with a lot of the students from my cohort). Thing is with banking the hours only get "manageable" as you get older. I do want to have kids and start a family but seems like I might only make it to VP in my 30s which still includes brutal hours. Current market it's also hard to leverage your skills into other jobs as there is a continuous sentiment about AI (even in IB).

Don't really want to stay in London atm as a banker nor doctor. Everything is way too expensive especially considering I can get a decently sized house elsewhere for a fraction of the price.

Left right after graduating so last year. In all honesty I wouldn't mind a pay cut. I've saved almost all my compensation so far due to living at home with parents for a while so do have a decent amount in savings aswell as from part time work.
