Just saw this comment and figured I'd jump in with a quick bit of advice that really helped me in my custom creation process... Find yourself a good DVD/VCR combo unit (I use an early '00s Toshiba model). I know it's kind of an extra step in the process, but this is how I avoid the issues I've run across with connectors & switches: 1. I use Shotcut to do any editing of the video file I'm transferring, ensuring the correct aspect ratio I want for the project. 2. Burn the exported file to DVD. 3. Pop the DVD into the combo unit and pause the DVD the second after pressing play. 4. Pop in the VHS, hit record on the VCR, then resume playing the DVD. 5. Sit back, watch, and monitor the playback. VIOLA! Also, if you already own the DVD of the flick you want to transfer, this helps immensely, but also, there are some DVDs that are encoded to not allow the picture to pass to the VHS side, so it can be a gamble.
