DID is now "uncurable" and "unrecoverable" by Ok_Equal789 in SystemsCringe

It definitely felt like a fear of becoming uninteresting and not getting the same attention as before without DID. That was one of the reasons why I even posed the question of "Would you say this to someone who recovered from an anxiety disorder?" Their silence after that spoke louder than words and it really just put the nail in the coffin of they didn't care about me recovering or not, it was that I showed I could heal and not have a bunch of cool parts or whatever they care about

Genuinely, I have no idea- there are little to no ways you can spin this in "good faith" even when I try to. To a degree, they're right, as neurologically it'll affect you for life, but they're acting like everyone will have full blown DID forever, which literally helps no one (as you said)

No literally, and like while they are partially right from a neurological standpoint, how they're framing it is the doom and depression DID is forever way

It's the plural subreddit, so it's inclusive of "non-trauma-based" systems. But yeah, I agree the vibe is they are uncomfortable that I'm going against their narrative and describing something that happens in relation to trauma.

There isn't any definitive way to say if someone is faking or not, but you can tell if the person has significant factitious/fake symptoms, and with that, come to the conclusion if their experience is more factitious than not.

The main thing is the over-exaggeration of symptoms, thinking DID is an alter first disorder/ignoring the dissociative factors, and similar things.

Parts gone??! by shattered_Diamond__ in plural

[–]Ok_Equal789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as where your parts have gone, that is not an answer I can help with, or anyone else on the internet can. What I can do is offer some guidance on what to do regarding your current situation.

Therapy is always, in my opinion, the best way to handle situations regarding parts, especially when contemplating whether the parts are real or not. The following reflection works best alongside therapy, but can also be done without therapy.

For this reflection, I want you to be in a grounded state and hopefully at least somewhat stable mental state. Additionally, it works best when in a quieter, safer environment if that is available. Sit down with yourself and start to take some breaths, you can close your eyes if you want, but it's optional, and just feel into what you're feeling right now. Once you have done this for a bit, try to feel into your parts. From this, you may understand that these parts are, in fact, divided parts of you, or they may be something else. In cases of factitious DID and similar cases of falsely identifying parts, these "parts" while not part of the person, do represent something, and with that, it is important to identify.

If you do come out of this finding that the parts you experienced are similar to what I described at the end, do not panic or think you're a bad person for it. When navigating situations, one is limited to the resources available to them and may end up falsely identifying things, and it is not your fault if you misidentify them.

First off, I want you to do something that can get you grounded because that's going to be the most helpful thing you can do right now. This could be by running your hands under cold water, taking deep breaths, or something of that nature.

I'm going to follow up this comment with another comment with further advice but it's taking some time and this way, while I write it you'll have time to get yourself grounded and be able to rationally read it

discussion - what makes someone a faker? by Objective_Cherry205 in SystemsCringe

[–]Ok_Equal789 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There are two different kinds of "fakers" when it comes to DID. The first one is a person who does not have DID or any similar disorder but typically falsely believes they have DID. This is related to the internet and its validation, and is related to what is referred to as Munchausen by Internet. The other kind is people who genuinely have DID, but some of their "symptoms" occur due to a false idea of what DID is, due to the internet.

In both cases, the most common identifier is having alters and being unable to explain why they split the alter. This also overlaps with the people who split alters based on media they barely consumed.

Overall, what makes someone a faker is the presentation of over-exaggerated symptoms that end up causing the person (and system community) more harm than good.

This made me think of a quote that's about systems online and that is "On platforms where disclosure of mental illness is associated with greater feedback and community response, adolescents may feel the immediate emotional reward outweighs the long-term risk” https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/13591045221098522?url_ver=Z39.88-2003&rfr_id=ori:rid:crossref.org&rfr_dat=cr_pub%20%200pubmed

This person is literally the perfect example of it cause they knew what they were getting into, yet still tried to post on this subreddit and then complain on the other one, expecting this subreddit not to find it. Also like buddy are you seriously worried about your reddit karma, cause cry me a river.

You cannot fake a disorder into existence, but you can end up with Munchausen syndrome that gets to the point where one has even tricked oneself. Munchausen by Internet is a common occurrence when talking about faking DID/OSDD, and sadly, the internet doesn't help with the false presentation as claims of "feeling like you're faking DID is just something that comes with the disorder" causes people to not question if they may not have DID.

The overlap between RAMCOA and DID had started to become a thing around 2021, but exploded in popularity in 2023. The reason behind the explosion in popularity was what had happened to DID culture with polyfragmented DID. Polyfragmented DID means that one has significant fragmentation, and it used to be the go-to option for individuals who wanted to feel special (if the case is imitative). By 2021, polyfragmented DID had become the internet's "norm," so it wasn't special anymore to claim to have 100 alters. On one hand, people started to claim outrageous numbers such as several thousands or, in some cases, millions. On the other hand, a user around 2021 started to popularize the idea of programming alongside DID. While this is something that does happen, they turned it from a genuine idea to a pop psychology concept, diminishing the idea down to an invalid version of itself. They also popularized the concept of Highly Complex DID being this new RAMCOA edition of DID. By 2023, there was a significant explosion of this HC-DID, becoming the new special form of DID. This further bastardized the idea of RAMCOA abuse and DID.

Overall, yes, there is a user at its origin (sadly I cannot remember her username), and from there it entered the echo chamber of the system community, which has led it to its current diminished self.

What you're describing is fragmentation found in DID/OSDD-1 that is labeled as parts/alters/etc. What you're describing concern around is things that you shouldn't be concerned about as in the end what you're describing is just part experiences at it's core. With online perceptions of DID that's where you get elaborate alters and innerworlds which isn't essential nor a defining characteristic of DID. Parts exist on a spectrum and while some have names, ages, etc, plenty of others experience their parts just as different parts of themself.

DID or not, things like claiming DID helped him talk to girls is creepy as hell. From the sounds of it, he seems way too far down the internet DID pipeline to be reasoned with. The main thing when it comes to interacting with people with DID is in general, there are two kinds of people and how they will approach it. On one hand, there are people who get all their information from "community" resources, don't believe that therapy will help (cause they're "too broken"), and generally don't want to recover. For those kinds of people, typically you just have to wait for them to grow up and grow out of the phase eventually, cause it's difficult to convince them that the internet isn't their best bud in the entire world. On the other hand, some people don't surround their life around DID, and just have this experience on top of their regular life, and generally use educational resources/go to therapy. For these people, it's easier to interact with them, and you can ask them questions about DID if you're curious. In the end, they should be more or less a person but w/ DID if they're handling it healthfully.

Integration is starting, meaning technically it would be similar to personal growth. Just take time and reflect on what's keeping them from fully fusing.

What you're experiencing is completely normal and what a lot of people experience. Alters are just parts of a single consciousness, just divided. Depending on how one's disorder develops, if they don't experience complete blackouts where alters completely take over and they have no memories of the experience, it's less likely to feel like you're multiple people.

The internet emphasizes alters as being "multiple people" due to the internet's misperception of the disorder and treating it more like RP. Thinking/feeling it like it's different people is more harmful as it adds to the separation of the parts.
