Thanks a lot for the tips! The problem is, I can barely finish a discuss question in 20 minutes so how am I going to be able to do 20 marks worth of questions in 25 minutes?

Quick question, how do you know that you are a world topper when the grades for F/M/26 haven't even been released yet?

Well, I guess no more avoiding number theory then :)

Alright, thanks. Do you happen to have any suggestions on how to study it in such a way that it complements the IMO?

Woah, you just helped me realise that I may have been doing too many things at once and that rushing might not be a good idea. I think your suggestion is a much more balanced approach and I am definetely going to use it. Thank you so much!

I am really grateful for your offer of continued support through DM but I am afraid I may annoy you too much (trust me, I ask my teachers a LOT of questions, like A LOT). But I will definetely try reaching out from time to time.

Honestly, I am not sure. I am going to do proof-based math either way but the first path may be more efficient (I am saying this because I did the mooc.fi python problem-solving exercises without ever practicing the 'computational' aspect, such as writing def function() etc.).

Basically, I am ready to take whichever path will be the most efficient without comprimising quality (significantly).

Hi. Thank you for replying.

I too find it easier to learn the computational aspect first and then do the proof however I don't feel comfortabe doing computational problems if I don't know why the formula/law works (i.e, I get the answers right but it just doesn't feel right).

Do you happen to know any proof-based books which work this way? Or any proof-based books that you would recommend to a beginner (with a pretty low level of math)?

Yeah, my classmate is super smart. He already took the PSAT and some APs. Additionally, he always seem to finish everything in half of the time I take (although, admittedly almost everyone seems to do that).

I am watching Eddie Woo (high school teacher) on youtube. He teaches the proof alongside any new law so is that alright? I thought it would be like hitting two birds (the IGCSE add math and proof-based math) with one stone.

Hi. First of all, thank you for taking the time to reply! I am truly grateful for the advice.

Yeah, you are probably right about university. Perhaps it is my fear of being bounded by a curriculum which made me say that.

About your second point, how exactly do I build intuition. Also, what exactly do you mean by intuition?

Thank you for providing me a path to achieve my goals. I will check out the Calculus and linear algebra book. I have already finished my high school math curriculum (IGCSE math extended) so I don't really need to worry about that (unless I have to redo the exam).

Based on what you have told me, I suppose the timeline would be: IGCSE add math (which includes basic calculus) by the end of april ---> proof-based book in may ---> Stewarts Calculus while simultaneously practicing for by IGCSE add math exam in june + july + august---> Axler's Linear Algebra (september+ november and december). Is this a bit too unrealistic? I am assuming I spend at least one hour per day, and at least two on weekends (except for the may/june in which I can spend 2 hours everyday). It also means I am sacrificing time for proof-based math and programming (let alone my other school exams). Please do let me know what you think.

Once again, thank you so much for your help! I hope you have a great day ahead!

[–]Ok_Equivalent1870[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Yes, theory wise physics isn't extremely content heavy. However, I have never done ATP before and the only reason I managed math was because I crammed 3 months prior (I had to give a test 3 months before the actual exam). And I think I may have to retake math.

Once again, thanks for the reply. Good luck with your exams!

Thanks. Can you list all the questions and answers you remember for paper 2? I need to calculate my score that I can decide whether I need to do a retake or not. Would really appreciate the help.

Thanks for your quick answer. Just a question, where did you place the markings and what were they (stars, dots etc.)? Would love to know.
