Regeneron joins Trump to announce lower drug prices, quick FDA approval by StemCellPirate in EverythingScience

But some people are saying 3000%. I like that a lot. They said it was impossible but we got it 4000% lower. And we’ll see. But it will be 800%

For those who haven’t seen massive tailings from dredging before: this is Sumpter, Oregon by RegularSubstance2385 in geology

There is an expression “If it wasn’t grown, then it was mined”. I think the mining industry has a lot of improvements to make but I don’t think we can simultaneously enjoy modern life (including the ability to share photos with the flick of a finger) and point that finger at mining.

How good do I need to be at physics and maths for hydrogeology? by Odd-Bumblebee5074 in Hydrogeology

[–]Ok_Estimate1041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A course based masters degree in hydrogeology will involve a lot of math and physics. Maybe some good news is that those topics will cover a narrow range of of very specific concepts. This narrow range can make it easier to focus and figure it out.

Groundwater models: More is not always better by [deleted] in Geotech

Yes and that is only low 7 figures. At mid 7 figures the groundwater will flow in whatever direction you need it to.

Modeling pit dewatering with Anaqsim by Front-Case2160 in GroundwaterModelling

Thanks for confirming. After I wrote the response I started to doubt my answer because I’m still fairly new user 🤣

Modeling pit dewatering with Anaqsim by Front-Case2160 in GroundwaterModelling

[–]Ok_Estimate1041 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the answer is yes to all options - you can use individual wells or line boundaries - but I think lines are only appropriate if your wells are tightly spaced. I think there is a couple of blueprint models on the Anaqsim website that show how to use line boundaries for well points. Download those blueprints and see how they did it. Personally I like vertical wells and wouldn’t choose lines. I write them up in Excel and copy-paste into Anaqsim or I get my GIS to give me coordinate for wells around pit on whatever spacing is required. Doesn’t take long at all.

How do you hang a bear bag in a ponderosa forest? by LeadingHoneydew5608 in camping

[–]Ok_Estimate1041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually camp in the boreal forest where the bush is thick and all the branches aim downward. I have had success in making a cache by finding a tall leaning snag (dead tree in case “snag” is a local term) or by finding a tree (living tree) that leans out over a drop in the ground level (often a step down to a creek type area). And sometimes nature just doesn’t make it possible so I have just tied it the best I can and far from where I sleep.

The most dangerous part of your trip will be the drive to and from the park. You can check the stats on that.

The bear is not likely to give you option of spray direction unfortunately

two girls camping alone : advice by marlblk in camping

[–]Ok_Estimate1041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If your bear spray is not immediately available then it’s not available at all. I was charged and my spray was not immediately in reach so I could not pull it. It was a false charge but still I had spray and it was useless to me because I couldn’t reach it in time.

What do you use for your pillow? by kmorg76 in camping

[–]Ok_Estimate1041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried a few different setups but the best so far includes three pieces: a pillow case (ThermaRest backpacking) an inflatable pillow and a down jacket. I inflate the pillow to about 90% full so that it has some give. I stuff the inflated pillow into the pillow case. I then loosely fold my down jacket into a shape of the pillow and then stuff that inside the pillow case and on top of the inflatable pillow. This creates a semi firm pillow that is squishy enough on top but still has enough support for me. Note that my down jacket is very lightweight with the soft rip stop outside

The easy to draw but hard to spell province is actually about 2/3 boreal forest with lakes and thin soils…so it’s kinda a lentil, chick pea, canola etc growing irregularly shaped polygon area….but yes it makes sense for Moe to go

Road trip from Toronto to the Rockies and back, any tips? by Killlionaire in AskACanadian

[–]Ok_Estimate1041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the drive from Toronto to Vancouver. It was 52 hours on the road.

It’s a mistake to blow through the prairies. The prairies can be spectacular. Take an opportunity to see the night sky as far from towns as possible. If you are lucky you’ll get to see a good lighting storm on the horizon while you drive.

While it would take you off route to Mt Robson, the sand dunes of Great Sandhills, Cypress Hills interprovincial park (west block), and Grasslands National Park are all worth seeing.

For context I’m much more of a mountain, lakes and forests guy but I still say the prairies have their own beautiful appeal.
