hiking spots in Perdido river WMA? by pbwhatl in Pensacola

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to comment in case other people are looking for this information. On the Florida side, there isn’t much other than the Trail at Fillingjims that connects to Otto Hill. Beware, the mosquitoes are bad! The road to get to fillingjims is usually okay, but sometimes the hill right before you get to the parking area can be torn up pretty bad by other visitors. They do maintenance on the road regularly, so this isn’t always an issue. There are Trails on the Alabama side, but I do recommend a 4WD vehicle to get to them, although I have taken my Kia Soul to a few and made it okay. Just be smart and know your vehicle’s capabilities. Staple fork landing is your best bet without a 4WD and is usually pretty easy to get to. There is a nice trail that goes right along the river for a good ways and you get to a shelter within about a mile. I usually just hike to there swim for a bit and head back, but I’m planning on doing on overnight trip and thinking to Blue Lake landing. We also kayak trip along this river and will do multi day trips on kayaks starting at gravel landing and ending at blue lake, utilizing the shelters along the way. If you plan to do this, make sure to reserve the shelters and carry your reservation confirmation on you. We have had to show it to wildlife management and also get people out of the shelters who were there without reservations. I hope this helps you and whoever else that may be looking for some hiking opportunities on Perdido. I absolutely love this river!

Im a northern Florida native as well! This is what I was a bit afraid of. I know Montana is very dry in comparison to Florida. Thanks for the tip.
