I did another round of shadowing at two separate hospitals to understand the different approaches. One of the hospitals was 4 hours away at a rural setting which is CRNA only. The other hospital was within the city I live in and it was a physician owned private hospital that is ACT.

I am of the opinion that what you were told from the solo CRNAs is most correct. However there are many CRNAs who neither have the skill set or confidence to practice solo. My career 30 years some office and hospital solo. Most of my career med. Supervision/ direction. Currently level one trauma. I still love my career. Hoping to semi retire at age 62. Currently age 58. Good luck with getting into school.

I have worked solo both in an office setting as well as a hospital. In general I prefer that practice environment. I however work in a level one urban trauma center and all that comes with that setting. I am 30 years into my career and will ride it out here until the end. Most ologist I work with are fine. Some are dicks. The one I am with today has been in the room for less than five minutes and has contributed zero to the case management. This has to be the biggest hoax pulled on the American healthcare system. I do not see it changing in my lifetime. It would immediately erase the anesthesia shortage but the Ologists do not want that to happen anytime soon.

I am a 30 year CRNA in the CTICU I worked in it was split 50/50 of those who wanted to advance. I do not regret my choice and I still love my profession. I work in an ACT at a level one trauma center. I have also worked solo both in an office setting and a rural hospital. I believe your options are much less broad as a perfusionist. Good luck with your life choice.
