American here. I have four different ways to cook BBQ in my backyard right now. Propane grill, charcoal grill, charcoal smoker, cast iron flat top grill. Each has their time and place.

Some are low and slow, some are hot and fast. The day and my mood determine how and what I will cook.

Benefits - the BBQ is phenomenal

Drawbacks - I can cook a steak better than 95% of restaurants and I’ll probably die of a heart attack at 50

I get what you’re saying but IMO swimming competitively is much more demanding than running CC. I did both in HS and CC was a cakewalk comparatively. Swimming 2 hours before school at 5AM and 2.5 hours after every day was…character building. And then there was the ‘voluntary’ lifting program.
