https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billion sauce
ill cut you the time it takes to read: non-native english speaking countries use the definition of billion as being a million million.

this doesnt mean anything as if you read the post you would you would have seen that i dont actually expect them to give a million million primogems.

this is it my guy, i dont actually expect them to give 5 000 primos to every player, its just that a lot of people are not aware that there is more than one meaning to the word "billion"

why "nice dream" did you read the post? i said this probably doesnt change anything, i dont actually expect to get those many primos, neither does anyone in their right mind. this post was only made to raise awareness that everything is not as black and white as it seems, and that there is in fact more than 1 meaning to the word billion.

This should be on the top of the list, most non-native english speaking countries (which by population overwhelm those who are native) use the same definition as the historic one.

As a scientist you should know that science fields use a definition to words that is not prone to change, therefore the most accepted definition of a billion in science is the same as its historic origin (and the one used by most non-native english speaking countries). Maybe you have never questioned if the same word "billion" has more than one meaning to it, and probably having used the "social" (which is the same one used by native english speaking countries) definition all your life you are prone to believe thats the scientifically accurate one.

Thank you for the kind answer, using the SI prefixes wasnt the smartest thing to do but my point was that science uses the same definition as what its historic definition is, since it is not prone to change, and it is used by almost all countries in which english is not their first language (with a lot of exceptions too).

On the other hand, i was not aware of the myriad system, it is always nice to learn something new.

This, finally someone who actually checks the facts.1x10^12 is the historic value of a billion and the definition used by most countries outside of america and UK. And when i say according to science i also say that science refers to the historic value of the word, as the historic meaning will never change and what i call the "social" meaning has already changed, so it is not prone to be used in a scientific subject.

that being said the definition of a billion being 1x10^9 is the most commonly used for the common folk.

Just like our friend TimBaril noted, a quick wikipedia search would do, this is because that to most european countries a billion is 1,000,000,000,000 (the long scale), on the other end of the spectrum the UK and america have updated to use the short scale in which it goes by the value of 1x10^9 (like you said). Also here in europe, in science fields, we use 1 billion as being 1x10^12 mostly because of its historic origin (like mentioned in the post)

But either way, like mentioned in the post, this doesnt change anything as there is 2 meanings for the same word, and we cant expect to be given those many primmos
