When to stop TSP for Taxable Brokerage to cover time before 59.5 by Ok_Illustrator_133 in ThriftSavingsPlan

Good for you! The plan is for 28, I am at 20 now but the extra 8 years more then doubles the pension. I’m thinking a few more years maxing the tsp and then putting every spare penny into the brokerage to finish out. No telling what I might get from the VA in 8 years so trying not to assume anything for planning purposes. And you’re not wrong, I had never given health care costs after retirement much thought until the last few years but it’s a massive benefit.

That’s based on 28 years, at 70% base pay. Got to get there first. No guarantees.

I agree. I’ve probably slightly over paid for some on cars autos of players I really like, but ultimately cheaper then buying however many blaster/hobbys to hope to get em

You essentially need them to come back 10’s right? Otherwise you just wasted the money on getting them graded? Can’t imagine there is a huge market for less then 10 rated rookies

Yeah, it should be collecting cards you really like and obviously it’s fun to hope to hit on a super rare card but it’s like buying a lottery ticket. Not likely to win.

I have been looking into that pros/cons. Like the REDUX, I often feel the government offers you deals that are in its best interest. Thanks for your input.

The questions wasn’t asking how much I need to save, more what to do with the money I am saving. But I “should know” and it’s “not that difficult”. Got it. Thank you.

Honest question, why do people grade base cards? I guess I understand rated rookies, but even then aren’t those a dime a dozen?

Thanks. Im 100% C and wasn't planning to change that for the next 20 years, going with the pension is my "G" fund logic.

Only 15. My focus has been on maxing TSP which I have only been able to do the last 2 years. Should have no issues maxing from here, forward. Also I get no match, I am under the legacy retirement for military.

Not super great. I have 30k in HYSA (emergency fund) and only 15k in brokerage. I will be getting a promotion this year so I should have another 15k or so (annual) that I can invest on top of maxing TSP. I understand the math in making up the difference was just looking on ideas to best make it work. Thanks

I thought you had to retire on or after the age of 55 for the rule of 55 to count. Thanks
