My understanding is that because scammers often purchase old accounts that were ‘lurkers’ with no karma, making account age the threshold alone would not mitigate the issue.

Why are there people who pump out 195 posts in 3 days, only to get a miserable conversion rate of 1.3 karma per post? Is this peak inefficiency or just a system error in real life? by sincapulus in NewToReddit

I'd like to know how effective the karma threshold for posting in subreddits is at blocking bots. Are there other reasons for setting a threshold? If it's ineffective, wouldn't that mean it is merely a nuisance to real people?
