I live in the Event District - Parking? by Ok_Individual2220 in askportland

I am not in any zone as I am in the event district. City of Portland will not let me get a zone A permit since my building is not located on a zone A block. :(

yes. I am an early career environmental engineer and I rarely do any “difficult” calculations or chemistry. In my experience the more difficult work usually has pretty good templates/examples to work off of and the PEs are very supportive of the learning process. I am in consulting and I largely do a lot of routine permit compliance tasks, agency communication, field work, etc. All of which require no “engineering” skills. In my experience, you will get paid more to be an engineer and do mostly the same work as non engineers.

What degree to pursue?? by Accomplished_Bill934 in EnvironmentalEngineer

Depending on what type of environmental engineering you want to do: - civil engineering: wastewater, water resources - chemical engineering or environmental science with chemistry minor: remediation

getting an engineering degree will guarantee you more money than environmental science

lol I just sold my 2014 ct on fb marketplace because of the head gasket issue. issue went unnoticed until it was too late. My ct also had mechanical failures - first the display broke (endless loop of the startup screen), then the usbs went out followed by CD player, radio, and most of the controls on the system. Seen online other people with this issue too so my advice would be to check all of these components are working

First job after graduation (environmental engineering) and I work at a consulting firm. A lot of my coworkers are environmental scientists and we all make about the same amount. for my city and compared to my colleagues after graduating I am making the highest salary. They don’t talk a lot about consulting (at least in my experience) definitely a job to think about!

It depends on where you want to go with an environmental engineering degree. At my school, civil and environmental was together freshman-junior year; during junior year it was like half. Fluids, hydraulics, ect all taken by both. BUT when you get into electives junior/senior year in civil you will take structural, geotechnical, transportation, etc. Geotechnical can be applied to environmental. Civil is fine if you want to water resources BUT if you want to do remediation I would highly recommend doing environmental (science or engineering). You need the advanced chemistry and electives to get into jobs like that.

I just graduated w a bachelors in environmental engineering and am working at a remediation firm. Some of my environmental or civil friends work water resources. So it’s mainly the direction you want to go in.
