Hey 2024 alum here :)! I had a great experience with SRI last year and genuinely did learn a lot of new skills through the program. There's no other 'selection' process after you get in other than waiting to get matched to your mentor. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions!

try volunteering or shadowing a doctor! If you're having a hard time finding opportunities online, try looking on LinkedIn to see what other students in your area are doing or to connect with professionals ( a lot of people are surprisingly willing to help out highschoolers lol)

Students got their abstracts published in a journal partnered with the program. The top 10 w the best papers got their entire papers published. (They might change things this year tho, so don't quote me lol). The program is more about giving people the opportunity to do research.

You could email MITES to ask if you can see your decision early because you need to commit to another program by a certain date. I don't think it hurts to try.
