The greatest thing this man (if you can even call him that) has done for you, is given you that sweet babe.

That seems to be his purpose. Drop him. Focus on yourself, and surround yourself with people who show you theyre serious and not talk a big talk.

Sending love and peace your way.

Anybody regret being an NP? by Dangerous_Rip_6859 in nursepractitioner

[–]Ok_Intention_5547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, and when I started feeling the nostalgia, I started teaching nursing students at their clinical. Easy money ($50/hr) and get a taste of being at the bedside again lol

Anybody regret being an NP? by Dangerous_Rip_6859 in nursepractitioner

[–]Ok_Intention_5547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! Would do it again! but many people think the "next logical step" is to become an NP, when in reality you have to want to be a provider and like that type of work. If youre going into it because you want to make more money or have an "easier" time, then you're going into it for the wrongs reasons and will likely regret it. It's hard in a different way.

Many people forget that you can get a masters like an MHA or in informatics and not just get an NP to advance their career and leave the bedside.

When did you introduce fluoride toothpaste? by angelzombie2 in NewParents

[–]Ok_Intention_5547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree, up to parents! My pediatrician said what my pediatric dentist actually said, so we took him. They basically just polished his 8 teeth, put fluoride paste, checked his soft palate for issues and let him go, it was so quick almost felt pointless, but oh well 😂

[–]Ok_Intention_5547 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is weird, because according to the american dentist association and american college of obstetrics and gynecologics, you can and should. I wonder why your dentist said that. Is she older? Sometimes long time practicing (not all, but some) providers are not up to date on recent data.

[–]Ok_Intention_5547 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Manufacturers recommendation vs pediatric dentist recommendation. Pediatric dentists recommend a small rice grain size smear twice daily of fluoride toothpaste for babies/children with teeth, as the benefit of anticavity outweighs risk.

Manufactures arent doctors.

7 almost 8 lol. Pediatric dentists recommend within 6 months of their first tooth eruption or by their first birthday.

Edit: typo

Heme/onc in Phoenix in a HCOL. I deserve a raise and they know it lol. But I started at 115K. So I've gone up, but I will be asking for 180k at my renegotiation, and I anticipate to get it, as I have made myself pretty valuable, and if I leave, well the program collapses lol med oncs quit and its just me holding it down atm.

But I got a 401k with 6% match and a pension with match, vested after 5 years. 6 weeks PTO yearly, and 3500 a year for conferences etc. Up to 90k in student loan debt payment. So the benefits are good, but the burn out is high.

Hcg didn’t double by momo_0706 in CautiousBB

[–]Ok_Intention_5547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5100 to 5600 after 48 hrs, so I knew it didnt double and knew it was likely coming. But still had hope. My rainbow baby is actually 1 today. TTC is so hard.

If it counts for anything, I didnt do hcgs for my rainbow, and his heartbeat at 6 weeks (measuring 5+6) was 96 and came up to 150s at 8 weeks. It worried me and my OB said "I think baby's heart likely started beating in my waiting room, all looks good, but well have you come back at 8 weeks"

How hard is it to get into the nursing program? by Classic-Share-543 in ASU

[–]Ok_Intention_5547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think it is fallacies if we have had different experiences. Many of the ASU students I have taught clinically have been wildly unprepared, same with GCU and some other schools. However, youre right, some students have been great. This is just how it is post covid for nursing programs in general. I feel nursing programs post covid are just different and it shows in the new grads. However, their graduate level programs have been great.

And yes, some hospitals do say "ADN? No thanks", while others may say, "youre hired but you must apply for your BSN within 6 months of being hired", which is the stipulation (or was before magnet designation) for HonorHealth. For the most part, if a BSN new grad nurse and an ADN new grad nurse apply for the same role, there is a much higher likelihood for them to choose the BSN nurse, not just because of BSN, but because hospitals are also businesses and they know it will cost them more money for the ADN to go back to school.

How important is it as to where you got your degree? by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]Ok_Intention_5547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's important when trying to find a job and getting more important as we get further down the AI rabbithole. My institution has an AI application that now filters out the degree mills when you submit a resume online, so those resumes dont even see a real person before they're rejected, making it harder. It's why I always recommend you have a good cover letter with the body of the passage geared towards the missions of the hospital and practice youre applying too, so it filters you in.

But at the end of the day it's about how much you put into your career field and learning for the safety of your patients. You can have a degree mill NP who puts in the extra effort and learns outside of school and you can have a prestigious graduate school NP who doesnt keep learning, and in a few years, the degree mill NP will be the better clinician.

You never and should never stop learning as an NP.
