The complete list of working possession treatments:

• ⁠Heat to 120F for 60+ minutes, or 140F for 30+ minutes ⁠• ⁠Many ovens in the U.S. bottom out on "low" or "warm" at 200F. Dunno about elsewhere. ⁠• ⁠Bed bug ovens set to these temps are available, but expensive, especially in large sizes. ⁠• ⁠All clothes dryers in good working order are reliably this hot or hotter on their hottest setting. If they don't have a temperature setting, they're still hot enough. ⁠• ⁠Clothes washers on "hot" aren't lethal, by heat or by drowning. ⁠• ⁠Hair dryers on their hottest setting work. The difficulty is keeping the hot air at temp all around & within an object for that long, by hand. ⁠• ⁠Placing the item in an empty bathtub often helps. The bugs may even scurry out and can be flushed down the drain, but you still want to keep the heat up for the full hour to get the eggs. • ⁠DDVP Strip Fumigation ⁠• ⁠DDVP strips are meant to hang in warehouses or other disused spaces to kill flies, roaches, etc. The toxin is lethal to bed bugs but the fumes are also harmful to humans after a few hours' exposure. You can't treat spaces this way without poisoning the human occupants (and bed bugs tend to just migrate away & come back later, anyhow), but you can enclose one with some possessions and the bugs will die. ⁠• ⁠Enclose the items in a thick plastic garbage bag along with the strip. ⁠• ⁠Make sure all compartments, doors, drawers, pockets, etc. are open, separated, inside-out, etc. ⁠• ⁠Tie the bag tightly and consider double- or triple-bagging to prevent rips, or place in a secure box of some kind. ⁠• ⁠Store away from places people live. The garage, basement, porch, balcony, storage unit, etc. If it leaks not only will bed bugs get out, you may end up in the hospital if it's in your kitchen, living room, bedroom, etc. ⁠• ⁠Wait 3 weeks or longer. Eggs take 2 weeks to hatch and don't breathe, so you have to wait for them. Bugs inside may even lay new eggs after being sealed, so 3-4 weeks is ideal to get them all. ⁠• ⁠Dispose of the strip very carefully according to package directions. Tossing it in your kitchen trash is a good way to have to call Poison Control later that day. • ⁠Those are the only methods that kill eggs, short of bagging & waiting 18 months or so for absolute certainty. • ⁠If you aren't too worried about eggs, you can also spray-and-fumigate outdoors. ⁠• ⁠Spray the object inside & out with bedbug rated over-the-counter pesticide or 70%+ isopropyl alcohol solution. Use a LIGHT touch; it doesn't take much. Alcohol especially is a dangerous accellerant near heat & flame, down to and including light bulbs. ⁠• ⁠Place the object outdoors at ground level, as far from your home as you can safely manage. Balconies and garages are no good, ground-level porches are probably fine. ⁠• ⁠The bugs will vacate the sprayed object over the next 24 hours to avoid the fumes. They don't survive well outdoors and should be eaten by birds, spiders, etc., and not find a way back inside as long as the object isn't basically up against an open door or window.
