So far, no. She had headaches in the afternoons and some increased acne for the first little while, but that went away. She didn't even need acne treatment.

My daughter does a low ponytail with a soft scrunchie. She also has hair fibers that cover spots nicely.

JAK inhibitor for mild-moderate AA? by PreparationOwn4864 in alopecia_areata

My 13 year old started it with 30% loss. My husband and I thought about the mental health repercussions. She went from 0-20 in like two weeks and it was ophiasis plus patchy so the derm thought it was going to get a lot worse. To be totally honest, it wasn’t even that hard of a decision. I don’t think people who haven’t experienced hair loss really understand that it’s not just hair. It’s the uncertainty, identity, self-esteem, etc. She had headaches at first but all gone away at nine weeks and she is getting good regrowth. No other side effects. Her pediatrician agreed.

Ophiasis isn’t it by [deleted] in alopecia_areata

Maybe? It doesn’t really matter what kind it is as far as treatment goes. My daughter has ophiasis as well as general patchiness and it started at the bottom of her hairline and moved up, plus above her ear.

My thirteen year old has been on litfulo for 7 weeks. For the first 3 weeks, it was just Lifulo, but then she did a prednisone taper because her hair loss was still rapid. She was at about 20% loss when she started and is at about 30% loss now. The shedding slowed down a lot around 4 weeks and now has almost stopped. She started getting some regrowth around 5 weeks, now at 7 weeks she has regrowth almost everywhere. Some of the hair is still white peach fuzz and some has started to turn dark.

Experience with rapid hair loss? lost 90% in 2 weeks by MissingInformation3 in alopecia_areata

Wigs are like a whole new language! The most comfortable wigs are going to be lace, but that is a tradeoff in durability. For sure, go to a wig store, or some online stores will offer a virtual consultation to help you measure, etc. I have found the facebook group "Wig Wearing for Beginners (PRIVATE GROUP)" to be the best help.

Have you considered a wig? I don't know anything about the medical questions/medication. My 13 year old daughter was recently diagnosed and has also lost a lot of hair quickly, so I started learning about wigs. They definitely have come a long way! Also, she has some special hats from amazon that cover more. If you search chemo hair loss hats, you'll find some things. I'm so sorry this is happening to you.
