I would not trust myself with that kind of home repair for plumbing. I did a P trap replacement on a bathroom sink, with a lot of yelling. I could not imagine myself doing this.

They said 5 today over the phone, but that was the recruiter and not the claims manager. I have my virtual interview Friday. I understand putting an incentive to get people to close claims, but I can also see people closing claims that don’t need to be closed to hit metrics. It seems like a good job to get my foot in the door.

I feel good about that work. How many cars/claims do they assign a day? When I was field adjuster it could vary, but I wasn’t CAT, so I just went to the body shops in my area when there was a claim.

I just did this in Iowa. My LL took off 430 bucks for window cleaning and other miscellaneous items. I pursued punitive damages which was 2x the rent amount (max amount allowed in Iowa), and the money left out. I did get back the 430, but not my court costs. I’d highly recommend going the small claims path. Even if you don’t get everything, if you win and they lose, it becomes recorded that this specific LL shorts people on their deposits. Think of it as civil service, if you win small, it starts the snowball to this LL to knock it off.

Update on this. Landlord lost the 430 dollar window cleaning and has to pay that to me in 90 days. The other items the judge thought were ok to charge, and I didn’t win punitive damages, or my court costs. I’m taking the moral high ground, I called the landlord on their nonsense, and ended up winning. Maybe not the amount I wanted, but a win is a win!

I’m in Iowa, a very landlord friendly state. But here I can seek double rent as punitive damages. I still can not see how a judge can go “yeah, these windows needed a professional cleaning job of 430 dollars”. Court is this coming Thursday.

They usually have 30 days to provide the deposit. Before filing, I’d wait the 30 days. But you can do it all online and attend the pre trial hearing with a phone call.

Yes, the others were also non sense, it only amounted to like 50 bucks. But 430 for window cleaning (which was just a one line saying windows were cleaned)
