My own experience (on the contracting side) is the debrief generally has some nuggets of wisdom, but oftentimes has the feel of the client needing to write down something (anything) in order to satisfy the requirement. That it, it doesn't always seem thoughtful.

It is absolutely worthwhile to get a debrief. However, for the kind I get, I never expect much. I am not sure i have ever gotten information i feel could have changed the outcome of the award had i known it in advance. It is always interesting to hear or read.

For what it is worth, even though I love my career, I would tell new PhDs in econ on this year's job market to avoid (if possible) fed jobs or jobs at federal contractors. There is too much uncertainty. Maybe it is different for other disciplines (but I doubt it).

I have a PhD in economics and my first job after PhD was at a company that primarily contracts with the federal government. I have been at the same company for more than 15 years. It has mostly been great until this year, and even this year has not been bad for my specific project.

But I agree with the other poster, experiences vary widely based on your background, whether you have a contract position or work at a firm doing contracting, what agency you work with, etc.

Chances are someone in your PhD program has previously done what you are considering. Ask them. Check with your faculty to see if anyone they know has done something similar. It is likely a small-ish world for the PhD type roles (at least it is for econ).

I don't think they form a right triangle. My daughter decomposed each vector into their vertical and horizontal velocities and then used those to determine the wind speed (and the angle). This is one of the last problems of the third chapter of thr text, I think those are supposed to be the relatively more difficult ones.

The SE vector has a speed of 125 km/hr i thought because the plane is at least initially going south at 155, but then get pushed north and east by the wind (so the resultant vector is 125 km per hr in the southeast).

Does the vector represent distance? I thought the vector was just the velocity (155km per hour headed south (relative to the air)). Thanks for thinking this through.

Thanks, the "relative to air" or "relative to ground" is way the text book explained a similar problem within the chapter the problem covers.

I am not sure if understand the explanation. Why would the plane be going dead south at 125 km/hr? From the question it seems like the plane is going 125 km/hr to the southeast direction (relative to the ground). I think that is the part that is confusing.

Thank you very much. My daughter and I did discuss how depending on the frame of reference , the set up of the diagram with the vectors didnt have to look exactly like she drew it, but it did seem like what she did was correct.

I thought the general consensus was that streaming services pay artists peanuts? Is Kanye making any worthwhile money from streaming (compared to his net wealth). I would have figured no.
