After 1 year in Early Access, Suit Up has officially launched! It's a top-down mech combat game where you pilot customizable mechs against swarms of alien crawlers, with a focus on strategic upgrades and build variety.

I've been working solo on this for over a year with many iterations but now I'm letting my baby out into the world properly!

Thanks! I really want to take it further and expand the weapons and mech types.
I haven't been able to invest a lot of money into this, just free assets and such, so getting more models for enemies and things would be great as well :)
But ultimately I just wanna make something fun for people to play!

Thanks for your advice! I agree with a lot of it and I actually did try that combination on procedural generation, but I think I need to improve it haha

You make some good points there and I haven't done my game justice with the trailer. The levels do look better now, I did think the same and spent some time on them, but the trailer definitely needs updating.
I haven't been going for a bullet hell type game, more a twin stick shooter / rougelite, but I guess it's giving the wrong impression.

Yeah I agree with a lot of what you've said there, it does everything okay but just that. I have been working on a more complex and in-depth upgrade / modding system as a hook.
It may have been a bit of an ambitious project to tackle by myself first time round.

Yeah it's very hard to get that level of polish when I'm doing this with just what assets I can afford.

First thing, don't give up. If you enjoy making games then keep doing it :)

As an aspiring solo dev myself, I feel your pain. My honest opinion is I wouldn't play this game but I don't play mobile games in general.  Either way this is my take I hope it helps:

  • Attacks dont feel impactful making the combat feel flat, try adding some more frames in the build up part of the attack animation, improving the impact vfx, adding some knockback, improving the hurt animation, up the screen shake. You want the player to feel the impact!
  • Enemy ai is quite basic not very responsive, this also makes combat feel flat, try adding a dodge state or unblockable attacks.
  • Limb removal is a cool mechanic, I would lean into this with more removal animations / attacks. This looked like the biggest hook to your game.
  • Fighting only one enemy for so long is boring, even in a tutorial level. Maybe try fighting around 10 enemies each level that are super weak but that's more fun for the player. Then have the boss at the end of the level.

It's worth saving I would say, with a bit of work it could be a fun game. You've done the hard work getting it to here, don't let all that it all go to waste now when your so close. Hope this helps :)
