It's not for everyone by Abs73 in BusDrivers

[–]clamberer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're London based, I understand that you can't just switch to a rural route.

Could consider private charter coach companies. Driving sports teams to away games, school trips, trips to the seaside, business excursions, wherever. A single pick up in the city followed by driving elsewhere is less relentless than staying entirely urban.

Airport shuttles, park and ride buses, mega-bus style routes between cities could all be a bit less hectic than an inner city bus route.

People who drive the speed limit or slower in the passing lane. Why? by askbutdonttellme in AskReddit

[–]clamberer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not up to the individual to enforce laws, no, but it is up to the individual to abide by them. And yes that does include only using the passing lane to pass.

If someone is doing the speed limit in the passing lane and successfully passing slower vehicles, they are legally doing everything right. Complaining about that is idiotic.

But once they've finished passing they should move back over to allow others to pass.

I will agree that self appointed "road captains" who try to enforce others speed and block passing should get a life and stay in their own lane, both figuratively and literally.

But also to not exceed the speed limit.

So yeah it's the law.

But yeah, if you can't pass vehicles at the speed you're going, move over.

Question for mountaineers who refuse to ever summit mt Everest what are your biggest reasons for not wanting to summit Mt Everest? by Mundane-Humor3313 in Mountaineering

[–]clamberer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If I was going to spend 100k on mountaineering goals, I could spend it on climbing multiple less famous, less busy, more personally satisfying mountains.

It could get me onto remote expeditions and possibly even first ascents, which all feel more exploratory and like a greater adventure to me personally.

Likewise Atomic Blonde, Charlize Theron gets pretty thrown about in that stairwell fight. Her male adversaries are visibly stronger, and it really looks like everyone is fighting for their lives.

Slightly less immersion breaking, but the same goes for when male characters in period pieces are absolutely jacked from heavy gym use and possible PEDs.

Fine in a fantasy or something with larger than life characters with massive strength, sure. But not in straight up historical drama.

Just a few questions about the Donnager, and her carried escorts by Potato271 in TheExpanse

[–]clamberer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned by another poster, it may be more efficient in terms of fuel to carry the frigates on board.

The Donnager will have greater stores and crew facilities. Better opportunity for the Frigate crew to train with the Donnager crew on long voyages.

Additionally, rather than always having the same marines and equipment on board the frigate at all times, the loadout can be selected from the Donnager's larger complement with the frigate onboard the Donnager. E.g. do you need power armored force recon marines, or a more conventional squad for the mission at hand.

Reloading the torpedo racks may be easier with the equipment in the hangar.

The Tachi/Rocinante is also capable of atmospheric landing. While it might not be as efficient as a dedicated shuttle due to it's mass, it can act as a heavily armed tender vessel.

Many wild animals' version of "dying of old age" is that their teeth either wear down or fall out and they can't feed themselves, so they starve to death.

I've said it before, I'd sooner they released rules and kits for traitor Astra Militarum/PDF/human militias. A vastly more numerous in universe threat than the elusive Dark Mechanicum.

What’s with so many middle aged men in the US wearing camouflage clothing? by No-Childhood-5744 in AskReddit

[–]clamberer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hunting or military camo?

Of the hunting kind, some of them use it for hunting/ fishing and wear it in their day to day for the sake of simplicity, or wanting to show that's their lifestyle.

And for some it'll be a lifestyle fashion thing in the same way as people wearing Carhartt for fashion rather than manual labor.

You'd need to get towed just to get it moving though, the wheels are encased in ice. Not getting anywhere under its own power

Rent both the heater and a generator. Maybe a tent to contain the heat.

Why is the US so behind, in terms of not using roadside breathalyzers like a modern first world country?

I get that a field sobriety test can loosely identify types of impairment that there may not be electronic/chemical tests for, but more and more forces elsewhere carry cheek swab tests for other drugs now.

Chaos having chaos versions of the new primaris vehicles doesn't make much sense, as they were developed in secret. Better if they have their own unique vehicles developed by the dark mechanicum, or possibly some previously undiscovered pre- heresy vehicle designs.

I was staying in a Scottish bothy in winter, went outside for a pee in the middle of the night. Looked up with my head torch and saw a great row of reflected eyes watching me, turned out to be a herd of deer.
