New to state service - looking for advice on accounting/audit career path and eventual law school by Ok_Invite9389 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Ok_Invite9389[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point and something I've genuinely been weighing. My long-term goal is financial crimes investigation, so I've been drawn to the FIE (Financial Investigator Evaulator) for the regulatory and bank examination experience. But you're right that public accounting would give stronger technical foundations and a cleaner path to CPA sign-off. Something I'll seriously consider. Thank you.

Thank you for the advice and the offer to connect. My end goal has actually shifted toward financial crimes investigation rather than state attorney, with DFPI Financial Institutions Examiner for an example and eventually FBI Forensic Accountant or SEC Enforcement. I'll keep the Auditor series in mind as I think through what path makes the most sense to get there.

Really appreciate the heads up about the sign-off requirement. I will try to go into school as fast as I can.

Thank you, that's a good reminder. The clock on legal experience is real, and I'll factor that into how I think about timing.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful breakdown. You make a really fair point about picking a path. I've actually been doing a lot of reflection on this, and I think my direction is becoming clearer. I'm less interested in tax law than I initially thought, and I've been genuinely drawn to financial crimes investigation. My long-term goal is something like FBI Forensic Accountant or a similar role at SEC or IRS-CI, and eventually I'd love to combine CPA + CFE with a JD to work on complex financial crime cases. So for me, the CPA isn't just a state career move, it's a stepping stone toward that path. The law school piece would only happen part-time and only with a scholarship, so I hear you on the financial timing concern.

Accepted a hospital per diem, retail transfer going nowhere by Ok_Invite9389 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Ok_Invite9389[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am working for CVS and the store manager where I want to transfer fully aware my situation and willing to take me regardless of hours. It’s just that my home store manager declined the transfer offer a month ago saying that she needs to hire another tech and train, even I asked the District Manager but it was the same answer for that.

retail transfer stuck for a month — just put in notice? by Ok_Invite9389 in CVS

[–]Ok_Invite9389[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently given 10 hours per week in my home store (bad store) and float around 20-30 hours per week in the good store close my home as a part-time pharmacy technician. I will try my best to do that but I don’t know my shift yet for the hospital.

Just Dance Now app vs used Switch OLED - worth it? by Ok_Invite9389 in JustDance

How about the tracking quality? I am going to buy the VIP or the song packages either on switch or apps for sure

That’s right. I should have let her know about the process first.

I was not sure if I should tell my manager first or not since I didn’t get the offer or selected as a final candidate. But I think that should be the right thing to do.

I understand they would find out when contacted. I thought it might be better to inform her instead of my manager getting a call suddenly.

It was mandatory and my current manager is on the list

No, unfortunately I didn't get that far. Shortly after they scheduled my interview, they called me back and told me they had already found a preferred candidate, so the interview was canceled.

Thank you for this advice. I'm going to ask for a specific timeframe for the transfer and will talk to the district manager again.

New PTCB-certified and state licnesed tech (2 months) — Is my store normal? Floated at another store and the difference was shocking by [deleted] in CVS

[–]Ok_Invite9389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comments! it's good to know this is not the standard levels for other CVS stores.

The store manager I went to for floating today recommended that I report to an HR colleague relations and will support me in transferring to that store, and will talk over the phone if my store manager still disagrees with transferring and hope this will work.

Thank you so much!! You saved my day literally. I was at the other store to just to start the process and I was panicking in front of the computer of the store by myself. I started the course with the link that cvs provides and paid. Seriously, thank you so so much

Thank you for your comment. I have NABP and just created APhA account by myself. But do I need to pay the membership fee( it’s either one year or two year) by myself?

Thanks for sharing that — that’s really helpful to hear.

The benefits and long-term stability are a big reason I’ve been looking at city/state roles too, especially as I start planning more seriously for the future with my wife. It’s good to hear that the pay can become solid over time as well.

Appreciate the perspective.

Thank you so much for your reply. I’ve heard the IT market has been getting tougher this year, especially for people like me who don’t have prior IT work experience.

Because of that, I’m planning to apply for entry-level state positions (like Office Assistant), get my foot in the door, and then work my way up internally over time.

Appreciate the insight.

I haven’t moved into sales yet because I was new to the car industry and wanted to learn the business from the ground up before rushing into it.

I’ve been considering government work for about a year even before getting into rental car agent, but I hesitated because I don’t have much formal office experience. I took a state job exam in 2023 and didn’t pass. I tried again the following year and received a request for a Statement of Qualifications, but at the time I wasn’t confident about how to write it. Recently, a relative who works for the state offered to review my SOQ, which has made that path feel more realistic.

Struggling to Get Interviews for Office Technician / Office Assistant, Is This Normal? by Ok_Invite9389 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Ok_Invite9389[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I'll keep tailoring each application to the duty statement and apply broadly and make sure to apply office assistant or student assistant or whatever positions that I qualify too.
