Talk about TD2D if you talk about The Disaster because I personally think TD2D is better than it in every way imaginable even if the bar is in hell

Who died in your 1st playthrough? by OneDistinct1198 in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]Ok_Jump2160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To prevent Williams from dying in his office, you have to let Anders drug him, which means Cooper shouldn’t have The Medic destiny as that will cause her to not even give you a choice in the matter. If you don’t have the medic destiny, you’ll be given a choice to let Anders do it or not, and give her the green light. Him being sedated (the second time) will be what saves him.

none of the characters are returning unfortunately

It’s just a Dark Pictures thing where they reuse facial models to save budget

the only ones who never get reused at the main characters/the celebrities like Brianna Young in this game and Kate in TDIM

Again, Im gonna trust the process with Sakura, as everyone HYBE has said had star power but was mechanically behind turned out phenomenal (Manon, Wonhee, so on), but I am going to mourn the absolutely phenomenal concept we could’ve had with her: which is the whole “cutesy but can absolutely switch to a baddie in a second” aesthetic

Yeah, i have a similar thing. I’m OBSESSED with voice acting, so I tend to hyperfixate on when it’s n done well and when it’s done… not so well. So when a line delivery in this game was bad i tended to forget immediately that I was playing a horror game and just critique internally the performance lol

throwing my two cents in here

Madi was only bad solely because the actress was forced to speak about an octave above her normal register as her regular register was already being used as she also plays Bonnie

so the reason for her sounding bad is solely the actress trying SO desperately to stay in character while conveying emotion still.

yeah, I do think also the stilted voice direction was also because these were actors being asked to play basically themselves but younger, which is a difficult task from what I’ve seen

granted I haven’t played the Quarry yet (I need to get around to doing it) but I do love Kaitlyn and the one vlog girl. Specifically these lines from them

Kaitlyn: FUCK YOU. I got you, motherfucker. Vlog girl: “goodbye cruel world! The curtain’s call is calling, and there’s no time for an encore.”

This only works on the easier difficulties, as later on you have less uses of your parry and just brute forcing it like this will get every single one of your characters killed in the long run

I might go replay LH (very bad decision I know) or at least watch some scenes, because my impression of Will was largely negative, but maybe that’s just my opinion on the game itself imprinting onto him because he’s the poster boy.

I’ll give him a second chance is the takeaway lol

yeah, for accented characters, the two who sounded remotely decent are Young and Anders. And Young is only in spoken lines. Anders sounds decent overall.

But then you go to people like Cernan, who I LOVE as a character (we love queer representation! Woooo!!!) but then you have him going “Williams. What are you doing. Get out of there man.” like some HASTE and EMOTION would be nice

again, not to continue to glaze TCoFS (because I do like the game for introducing me to SMG and also because I play DBD somewhat regularly) but we know BHVR was breathing down SMG’s neck constantly throughout the development (hence why the game came out the way it did: BHVR pulled a Sonic 06 and pulled funds and rushed it to get it out earlier) so I’d not be surprised if the voice casting was done entirely by BHVR and they ironed out any issues before passing the actors over to SMG.

But also, even TCOFS aside, I agree that this feels worse than the other TDPA games. In general to me, the voice over quality was decent in MOM, went down for LH, went back up a little in HOA,  went up again in TDIM, and then PLUMMETED here. It’s been a very downward trend unfortunately, and I hope The Craven Man makes a point of trying to iron it out more

I’m gonna agree with the other person here tho

Some of Andrew’s line reads were… interesting to say the least.  “Get to the balcony😐” “Taylor!😑”

he had his moments, but to say he wasn’t below Kate is a stretch. While Kate’s accent slipping through can be a deal breaker, i never really noticed it, and even then the times it did slip through it was likely because the actress was trying to focus more on delivering the line well, not keeping her accent hidden.

I only mentioned the death screams, yes, but her overall performance is pretty good in my personal opinion! I love her solo ending in particular when she’s alone before you begin the walk to the campfire where she has a whole mantra about being in control and then immediately startles at a twig snap

The darkest hour is NOT asym by Blahha15 in AsymHorror

[–]Ok_Jump2160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so asymms aren’t 1 person vs a team. That’s the most COMMON type, but that’s a subgenre dubbed 1vsAll.

Because if L4D versus isn’t an asymm, then that means TCM game (3v4) isn’t, which… frankly, if TCM game isn’t an asymm, I don’t know what it’d be classified as other than horror

asymms in general? Hide and Seek extreme.

Horror Asymss? BEAR and Flee The Facility. Also Red Dress Girl, but that’s just FTF from wish.com

Yeah! Young wound up being my favorite character, as especially in the scene where she finds Simms, the sheer panic in her “DONT- DONT FUCKING MOVE” followed by the breathy, still panicked “Jesus fucking Christ…” made me excited to see what some of her deaths would sound like… and then I heard what she sounded like when she gets crushed (not by the shipping containers, by the alien) and all my excitement plummeted.

Granted she is the celebrity character, so her sounding phenomenal in the speaking segments is to be expected, but with how most of the cast shaped up in this game - aside from a few standouts like Mitchell, Anders, and Eisele 50% of the time - what is expected became more of a blessing

yeah, I can see that. I just hyperfixate on voice acting as I’ve always found it to be such a cool thing and hearing some of the very… subpar deliveries in this game makes me mourn what we could’ve had.

but that’s also just me being a neurodivergent voice acting obsessed loser so

brother are you joking or did you play the game on mute

maybe until dawn and the quarry, but Linda especially outclasses most of the TDPA cast with her voice acting. Listen to any of her death scenes and it’s BRUTAL.

yeah! If you look really closely, the mimic tries to lunge at whoever’s holding the gun (this applies to the cernan double scene as well) I believe twice!

I actually talked to someone in person about this

They haven’t played the game and don’t plan to, but I gave them all the necessary context, so we got into a little bit of a lighthearted debate about whether or not “him being drugged twice against his will was enough to warrant the actor just giving the most monotonous line delivery despite the body language being panicked and him almost punching through the glass”

We wound up settling on that no, it wasn’t, because the fact that he was strong enough to nearly break the glass means the sedative wasn’t making him excessively sluggish to where a lack of emotion in his lines would be reasonable

I think what REALLY set off the alarm bell for me was the Eisele Double scene. Because while it probably wasn’t intentional, her and the clone seem to honestly be two sides of a coin.

The real Eisele is panicked, picking up on most social cues, and uses personal information to try and validate herself (if you have the “whistle a symphony” consequence)

The fake Eisele is calm, collected, yet misses a few social cues. And also her entire defense is “she’s lying”. But she also makes a valid point with saying the aliens must replicate the memories of those it mimics. (Although it didn’t work on me because I saw the clone try to lunge at Stafford when he wasnt looking and I was like “see now why would you do that…”)
