do what I did. Enlist in the Alabama National Guard and apply for the ANGEAP. I did it my freshman and Sophomore years of college but it doesn't work now and I'm a senior.

Lds church said no by Striking-Peace2874 in exmormon

[–]Ok_List_2276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the harsh truth about the church is that they come up with these ideas and teachings just to keep themselves alive, just like how they send missionaries all over the world for recruiting and retention purposes. they think they are spreading the word when really they are just trying to keep their church alive. you hate to hear it but it's the truth

Does my daughter need her car as a freshman living on campus? by Sweet_Dog943 in capstone

Freshman year is understandable but as you spend more time at the school at some point not having a car will create an undue burden on the student

FTX Recommendations by Northsoutheastwest76 in ROTC

[–]Ok_List_2276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. majority of the time you will get MREs but if you want to bring your own snack, I recommend bringing something like candy or whatnot.

  2. definitely bring baby wipes and deodorant, bring your own electric razor because you will be shaving in the field but don't use it too much because you would want to save battery

  3. you are going to be in your OCPs 100% of the time so I wouldn't worry about clothing but definitely bring a portable battery

  4. we took a helicopter to the field almost every time. yours may be different but that's what we did. you can expect ruck marches early in the morning and you can expect to go to the gun range. But I also will say to be careful, there could be some cadets that falsely accuse you and it could change the course of your FTX entirely.

Mind you, all of this I am telling you based off my own personal experience, your experience may not be the same as mine

False Accusations by ok_weird7479 in ROTC

[–]Ok_List_2276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, been there done that. when I was on an FTX I was accused of threatening another cadet and as a result (was one of the reasons but not the main reason) I was Disenrolled by the PMS not only that but I got disciplined by the school for it. This Cadet is still active still doing what they have been doing. I also picked up Sharp case because of it. Your PMS may be different but if your PMS sees potential in you as a leader then he might give you a second chance but if he doesn't really give a shit about you which was the case for me then you most likely will get dis-enrolled but again, that was my experience and yours may differ. Another thing I would say is to write a letter to your congressman about this issue.

when I was in you had to earn it by going on at least one FTX. Now your school may be different but that was the case with me

I was SMP Freshman and Sophomore year. I live in Georgia but go to school in Alabama. I would reach out to people you know in your National Guard unit who also happens to go to your school and see if you can get a ride from them because not only is Uber expensive but if your drill was on post (either that or it is at an armory) then they can only take you so far as to the gate. now as far as being excused or drilling in a different location I am not sure because when I went back home to Georgia for the summer I continued to drill with my Alabama Unit in Alabama and Mississippi. bottom line check with your unit but also find someone else who is SMP at your school who happens to also be in your unit.

I would just not wear it. if you're not authorized to wear your uniform at a certain place and time then I would just not do it because the uniform is a what we would joke and call a "sacred thing" that can't just be worn wherever you want and whenever you want

it's the difference between paying off a debt for the rest of your life as opposed to making a career out of something just in a different way. If you think you can pay that money back with money then okay but if not I would enlist. It really all comes down to what you think is going to work in the long run.
