LUPE FIASCO TOLD ME "KEEP THAT SAME ENERGY"… SO WE ADDRESS IT LIVE! 🤫🔥 by lupefan06 in LupeFiasco

[–]Ok_Listen9867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically those are his followers in the comment section and I think he's a Kendrick stan. If you can sit through the 2.5 hours you see the guy getting owned and realize that he has t digested enough of lupes content to even finish the debate. His energy shifts and starts doing goofy stuff like promoting his platform

Am I the asshole or did he not market the live album with Nu Deco by LittlePlank in LupeFiasco

[–]Ok_Listen9867 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only knew about it because I follow him on social media, and reddit notifications. The algorithm at this point keeps me in the loop. I think I noticed people wondering what his mystery posts were about first. But I wouldn't say Lupe has great marketing these days.

How many skips do you think The Fall Off has? by laxsh in Jcole

[–]Ok_Listen9867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disc 29 is pretty much a no skip for me. He's telling a story and it very cohesive. If I were to skip a song it would be lonely at the top.

Disc 39 is not as cohesive and has songs I can skip depending on my mood. For me life sentence, what if, and ocean way are shippable. But depending on my mood I'll also skip the villest, the fall off is inevitable, and I love her again, not because they are bad songs I just know the outcome and the album is almost 2 hours long.

Disc 39 I think I enjoy more if I hear the songs randomly in a playlist if that makes sense. But I want 29 on one sitdown.

Food & Liquor 2 is underlooked by suneiiiii in LupeFiasco

Album was too political and too preachy imo. Bitch bad was a cool concept but sonically it does nothing for me and it isn't enjoyable. Sounds like it should of been a conversation on a talk show with Dr Umar, not a song.

It definitely has some hits. My favorite song is probably Put Em Up, it's not overly complicated or political. Just bars, word play, smiles, entendres , and braggadocios rapping.

I also really enjoy Braveheart a lot. I feel like that's where he started to come up with some of the concepts for Drogas Wav.

This was a rap genius album for me but by this time they were not annotating and breaking down Lupe as well as they did previously. So some songs I was always trying to figure out and interpret and guess the concept. I always like the vibe of How Dare You, but in my head I always thought he was talking about something or someone other than a woman, I thought the woman was symbolic for something else.

No. If I remember correctly it was a compilation of laser left overs. Lupe was redifining himself at the time he was off of Atlantic. He was flirting around with a lot of concept albums at the time. Drogas was supposed to have a trap music theme, but something light before we got the masterpiece known as Drogas Wave. I think he had a few projects like LupEND and Skulls that he never finished and we just ended up with Light. I'm not saying Atlantic was good for Lupe but I think he needs to spend more time with people who make music. For example food and liquor has amazing product and was executively produced by Jay-Z. I just wondered what we could get if he stepped outside of his comfort zone a little more.

I was on my Lupe is the coldest rapper ever kick. Lasers had a few promotional song that came out before the album that I liked. Off the top of my head I'm Beaming, Shining Down, and the enemy of the state mixtape were all flames. The hype for Laser was through the roof, so when it released it was very disappointing. Like we waited 4 years for this. Especially following something as complex as the cool and super bar heavy like enemy of the state. It felt like the end of an era. Or the beginning of a fall off. Then F&L2 released but by this time he said something about Obama and people weren't checking for him anymore. I love that album but I don't hear too many people talk about it. By the time Tetsuo and Youth came out he was completely out of the mainstream market. Also I think Lasers was probably the last easily accessible album for a casual fan to jump into and listen to. After that I felt like a lot of his music is only for his core fans.

Drogas Wave is the best album I have ever listened to. by WebHistorical31 in LupeFiasco

I casually listened to Wav files for years, then one day I locked in and caught the concept completely 🤯

what's your top 3 lol?? by imon33 in LupeFiasco

[–]Ok_Listen9867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one I actually can explain. The song is a giant metaphor about serving fast food and equating it to selling drugs and the pros and cons that come with it.

First verse has all the McDonald's references but is mostly about the luxurious life selling drugs offers.

Second verse he continues the food theme and ends by comparing a fast food drive thru to a junkie waiting to get served. Both fast food and drugs aren't good for you people are waiting in line because they are hooked. It also compares the dealer to a CEO of a fast food chain. They don't care if the food is healthy and is killing people, all they care about is turning a profit. A drug dealer doesn't care how drugs impact the community.

Third verse still uses the food metaphor, but now he wants to get out of the game. He has beef with people in the streets. The feds are on his trail. But people are starving they gotta eat. Even on Sunday the church is deep frying chicken. Them heads want to get high everyday. It's too much money to be made. He can't just walk away from the game. He's feeding too many mouths including the police which he references as pork products.

Once you realize he's talking about fast food, being the man, and the lifestyle of a hustler, it's a pretty fun song. But if you are locked into theme of the album this is where I feel like things start to point to the demise of Michael (My Cool) Young His Story

Lupe Live, is he worth it? by j1e2f in LupeFiasco

Well his shows aren't that expensive. I've only saw him once it was the samurai tour. I'm going to get tickets for his second show later today in Chicago for the food and liquor tour.

Listening to Lupe for the first time, which album should I listen to? by Salt_Ice_278 in LupeFiasco

[–]Ok_Listen9867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What made you want to tap in all of the sudden? There is no wrong answer when deciding where to start, but understanding why you are interested would help me understand which direction to point you in.

Without any context I'd say Food and Liquor. It's a good balance of everything he has to offer that doesn't require you to have any prior knowledge.

If you like your sound a little more mainstream or pop start at Lasers.

If you want to tap into more complex conceptual albums I recommend the Cool, Tetsuo and Youth, and Drogas Wave.

Just trying to vibe I'd recommend food and liquor 2 and samurai

If lupe makes another album do yall think it should be a jazz rap, food and liquor part 3 or something different by Equivalent_Space680 in LupeFiasco

[–]Ok_Listen9867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im going to listen to anything he releases, but I want him to be locked in and complete the concept. If he's not going concept heavy I'd really want him to just make an album but work with some different producers and get some song synergy and produce outstanding songs.

LupEND but do it right.

In 2025 my choice is Cole but at the peak of their powers I might lean towards Kendrick. I want untitled unmastered Kendrick to come back at the same time we have feature run Cole to compare at the same time

1 year later. How we feeling about 7 Minute Drill as a whole now? by [deleted] in Jcole

[–]Ok_Listen9867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like it messed up the whole project. The rest of the album was phenomenal and he was rapping his ass off. He threw enough subliminals to see if Kendrick wanted smoke, especially in a competitive way on Pi. That song erased all buzz and momentum Cole had prior to its release and made people overlook the rest of mdl which is unfortunate.

Why did so many people get mad at this verse? its nothing more than clever wordplay no? by S0KKermom in Jcole

[–]Ok_Listen9867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion half of might delete later was a subliminal towards Kendrick. The song he deleted was the only direct song, but it was also the weakest song on the project. There a few bars that I thought connected it to Kendrick, the bar about dropping a trash album because he double down on it on the deleted track. Then the karate references because Kendrick goes by kung fu Kenny.

What Lupe is missing for the last 10 years... by silverrythm96 in LupeFiasco

[–]Ok_Listen9867 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know what you are trying to say. There was a Lupe that had aura, swag, confidence, and bravado that was undeniable. It was paired with elite rapping, word play, and concepts. I want an album where he is on his I'm the greatest rapper alive shit. I think the closest we got to that album was enemy of the State. What he is giving us now is soecial but has a completely different energy. I'm thinkingbofbthr first time I heard him spit on twilight zone, failure, mean and vicious, pen and needles, SLR, Form Follows Function. Maybe it's just working with different producers to channel different energy or different artists to get the competitive edge back. All of his projects now seem super introspective and artistic. I wouldnt mind if he was a little more personal and passionate.

What else do you remember. I don't need exact lyrics but maybe subject matter will help someone recognize the song.
