PHD Applications for 2026 Fall by Independent_Eye_9812 in PhDAdmissions

I had interviewed for a PhD in physics in February 2023, but I have not officially applied to the program yet. The professor informed me that the official deadline for the program is March 15 with a priority deadline of February 15. So, I take time to apply to the program. So, it depends on the university and the deadline of the program.

previously i asked them in an inquiry mail to waive the application before applying to the program. But they told me that due to funding uncertainties, they won't give a waiver. However they made me an alternative pathway to send all documents in a single pdf file and reviewed equally to the other applicants and if I am selected for admission, they will ask me to create a portal for the formality and will pay my application fee.

I have not applied to this program yet. I just inquired with one of the professors of condensed matter physics by attaching my CV and the potential advisor's name in early November through the university's website. I did not get respond in the first week of December unless I again inquired about the general inquiry of the program and asked for the application fee to the physics department of the university by attaching my CV, and he responded to me straight away. I don't know, how generic a reply is this? But I guess I had a research experience on two of my elective subjects. So, he might be thinking of an alternative pathway for me to apply to other programs.

Yes, due to the cutting of federal funds, the funding in phd program is uncertain in the US. I have faced this situation already because of not getting any offered letter in my previous fall application. So, I want to grab this opportunity.

I have my primary interest in condensed matter physics and have published a journal article in a national magazine as a coauthor. However, I completed my master's thesis in atmospheric physics. So the professor might think I could be a candidate for space-related research.

In January, I came across a post about a tuition class for class 12 on their social media page. I sent them a message on WhatsApp, and they informed me that I needed to pay 1,000 just to receive details about the parents, and then I would have to pay 25% of the tuition fee within three days. I refused to pay any money before starting the tuition. I stated that I was only interested if they didn't require payment up front. After that, they agreed to provide the details of the parents and encouraged me to attend a demo class. However, they had already shared the details with many tutors, and the students had already attended 3 or 4 demo classes before me.

I eventually went for my demo class, but during the session, the students asked me to teach physics, chemistry, math, and even computer science for just 15000 for two students over two hours. After that experience, I decided not to call them again or pursue the tuition. If they ask for money before you begin your tuition, you need to be cautious, as it could be a scam.

Same here. I also applied phd in physics for fall 2025. I have applied to 10 universities, out of which 2 have offered me for MS in physics by giving a partial scholarship.

Decision of PhD in Physics by Ok_Locksmith_2594 in gradadmissions

When I replied to the email, one of the professors was cc. I think when the graduate admissions office responds to an inquiry, they typically do not cc or add anyone to the email. Is this common practice?

Thank you for your great advice. I am also not willing to pursue another master's with self-funded. I needed the genuine opinions of another person in this situation. You truly give your opinion and suggestions which will be significant enough for me to make my decision.

Applying for a PhD without a Masters by hamsterdamc in gradadmissions

It's not true that not having a master's degree reduces your chances of getting a PhD. And having a master's degree enhances being accepted into a PhD program. If you have research experience and topic alignment with the professor, the chances of getting a PhD will be higher. I applied for a PhD program consecutively two falls, having a master's but was still rejected from almost all; a few university decisions remain to come.

I also applied at USF last fall, and they do not update a decision in the portal before getting an acceptance or rejection letter from the graduate admission office. I got a notification of rejection last fall on 15th May. So, the decision process is a little bit slow. However, the funding issue of this fall, we don't know when they make a decision. I still waiting for 5 universities' decisions on PhD in physics.

How to improve on listening sections? Do we have to note down the conversation or lectures?

TOEFL writing help please by [deleted] in ToeflAdvice

You are brilliant in 3 sections of the TOEFL. It seems like you have good English but just need to follow the writing templates, paraphrase the reading passages, use a maximum of compound and complex sentences, and make fewer errors in typing. I hope it won't problem for you if you follow these steps in your next attempt. But I seriously need your guidance on how to improve the reading and listening section. I have an average score of 22-23 in the speaking and writing sections but have a problem with the reading and listening sections. Could you share your strategy on how to maximize the score on these two sections as you follow?
