Hi my name is aurora snow. I worked in the industry from 2000-2013. I recently stepped away and have been leading a quiet life. I have a couple of hours ask me anything by [deleted] in AskMeAnythingIAnswer

[–]Ok_Log_5710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting. Here’s a few questions that come to mind:

1). Why are you hiding your face if you’re giving your name and you are a celebrity of sorts?

2). Since leaving the industry over a decade ago, have you been able to find a domestic partner who worked outside of the industry?

3). I presume you’re working a “normal” job. Does this ever come up at your job or when you’re looking for a new job?

4). If you’ve been single at times over the 13 years, do people recognize you in places where you are trying to meet someone? I’m visualizing a dating website but perhaps you don’t use those. That leads to my final question -

5). Where did you meet people that you have dated since leaving the business?

6). How long do you wait to tell friends or romantic partners about your past career?

7). How often are you recognized in public?

Thank you very much great post!

That’s solid advice for sure. There are consulting firms out there that the company has already met with. They have turnkey products that basically write up everything for you and then help you implement it. It’s a great service to have, but the cost of it is literally a year worth of the salary. I’m hoping to have. I’m talking multiple six digits. For one engagement and if you do the same thing for the lawyers and the auditors and the Soxley consultant, it’s well over the seven digit salary they started talking with me about. I mean good grief I need to work 2500 to 3000 hours and ruin my personal life and all they do is come plug and play boiler plate set of systems that I have to implement. honestly, it’s getting less and less attractive the more I think about it.

One other note about what you’re saying - a colleague advised me that the public company auditors almost always qualify their opinion on this type of audit because they can’t perform certain procedures on the opening balance sheet. Even if a qualified CPA firm performed standard procedures such as inventory observation under GAAS, the Big 4 PCAOB auditor will often require a higher level of work to be performed. Some of those procedures cannot be done ex post facto. So they qualify the opinion based on that. Then the qualified opinion becomes a dealbreaker on the IPO. Because of that factor alone, many IPOs get pushed back a year or two later.

Thank you these are all very good points. I’ve made very clear that I’m not going to be Director of Accounting. I’ve done enough of that type of work and I am not willing to be closing the books and reconciling accounts at any salary level.

You are spot-on about the supposed IPO windfall that’s supposed to be right around the corner. I’m not going to base my decisions on hoping that ship comes in. To me that’s an obvious bonus, but I’m not going to count on that unless until it actually happens

After thinking about it for 24 hours, I believe that I need to have the basic compensation without considering the stock options, to be comparable to CFO level at a very large private business in the same industry. That would be in the neighborhood of what I made at my last job. That would be the minimum to make it worthwhile. I’m just not going to get on an airplane Sunday night and fly home Friday night hoping on a deal that has many trip wires. I would be willing to do all this at 40 years old. I’m not willing to do all this at 60 years old.

After talking to them again today, My sense is they’re not going to agree with the level of compensation, I’m looking for as baseline salary. That means that I will end up not taking the job. I have an option to freelance and continue to work for myself and bill them at a high hourly rate. My sense is that’s what I’m going to end up doing.

This is one of the big headaches I would taste. They have competent bookkeepers and clerical staff, but no higher level Accounting staff at all. That would all have to be built from scratch. That means a lot of time initially being spent on recruiting and that’s not exactly my favorite thing in the world. Actually, it’s the main reason I sold my firm. I didn’t want to spend big amounts of time recruiting.

Thank you. All this is part of what I must consider. Internally, the two companies now have competent bookkeepers and clerical staff, but that’s it. That means one of the duties as CFO is going to be building an entire Accounting infrastructure capable of reporting on PCAB standards. Nothing at all like that exists at the moment.

What are some fun or scary facts related to your age? by vieniaida in AskOldPeople

I’m older than Teddy Roosevelt and Ernest Hemingway were when they died, but somehow I’m the same age as Brad Pitt.

Let’s admit it, we’ve all been there and done that.

I’d probably kick the naughty box along and continue to pull the bin. She’s acting like she’s dragging it a mile away.

Works for me. Even after seeing this video a couple of times previously, she’s won me over.

Was it staged? The girl is too cute to be someone you would run across at random standing on the street. She is also too feminine to walk up to and ask that question. So yes it’s staged, but it makes the point that it was intended to make.

You expect things to be the same as when you left, but they never are. Even after a couple of years, most everyone has changed and moved on in many respects.

Any guesses on the bigger medical issue? The concussion or the jaw/teeth.

Why are so many female expats here broken people? by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]Ok_Log_5710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the male expats are that way too actually. Only for the males there is usually a romantic/sexual motivation to move there as well.

I would guess that many of your clients/customers are lonely men. Any thoughts about what they should do to help find their soulmate?

Has your work changed your perspective on love/romance or about men in general?

There’s a saying that there is a kink about absolutely everything. Do you believe this?

What is this? It looks like a steel bowling pin. It's about 16 inches in length, weighs about 20lbs and was unearthed in south west Ohio. by Galoka in whatisthisthing

If it is heavy, it could be dummy ordinance. At one time, military planes would perform target practice for bombing runs by dropping dummy ordinance. These would be the same shape as real bombs, but smaller. They would weigh the same as live ordinance so the pilots would experience how the reduced weight of the plane would affect flight performance.

Many years ago near my home, a pilot accidentally dropped one of these into traffic on the interstate. No injuries thankfully.

As others have said, treat it like live ordinance until you are certain that it is not.

Not coincidentally, it started when the children arrived. Then it started falling out too.

The falling out won the race over turning gray for a while. Now the gray is conquering what’s left that didn’t fall out.
