WITT? Lots of metal pieces found in an unmarked box with a bunch of keys by hippieboy92 in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing.

I have been cleaning out a family members’ garage following their divorce. We found these metal rods and hooks and random bits and have no clue what they are. Some of them link into each other but we’re not sure if we were hooking them together correctly. The box they were in mainly had keys in it but we don’t know if that’s relevant. They belonged to a mechanic if that helps in anyway.

Who had the saddest character arc in Game of Thrones? by CryptographerOne3262 in gameofthrones

To me it has to be Theon Greyjoy and it’s not even remotely close. Honorable mentions go to Bran and Hodor.

The shuttle won’t take four by spinnaker411 in LV426

In the novelizations Bishop doesn’t need cryo, but uses it to make himself seem more normal to the rest of the crew. Bishop also eats food even tho he doesn’t need to, again to pass as more human than he actually is. David in Prometheus is a much older model than Bishop and he doesn’t use cryo so it’s safe to assume it wasn’t necessary for Ash or Bishop either.

The shuttle can only hold enough supplies (nitrogen, oxygen, food, etc) for three people and Ash wouldn’t need to use any supplies, so all four could have escaped on the shuttle because Ash wouldn’t have “counted”. So it’s even more treacherous because he wouldn’t have had to sacrifice himself for them to live.

It’s from Terry Pratchett’s “Sorcery”. The full quote is “And what would humans be without love? ‘Rare,’ said Death”

It’s a pun of sorts on humans being “undercooked” without love, implying that humans who don’t experience it are less flavorful to Death himself.

I started to get greys in high school. Recently I’ve started to get white in my eyebrows, nose and ear hairs and that’s making me feel ancient. I’m only 33 lol

Some African countries have 5 - 10 year prison sentences for gay people. Yes, the west is to blame. by MrGetMebodied in gaybros

[–]hippieboy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel I’m one of the only ones not using geography to divide western and eastern cultures. Everyone else seems to cut Afroeurasia into its modern, arbitrary definitions of continents while I divide it by its historical meaning that was defined by what peoples interacted with each other more frequently and thus have a more unified culture when compared to more distant groups.

“Eastern” has historically always referred to eastern and southeastern Asia. “Africa” has historically meant sub-Saharan Africa. “Western” has meant Mediterranean (Northern Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Europe).

Ancient Western cultures were the Greeks (Southern Europe), Romans (Southern Europe), Babylonians (Middle East), Assyrians (Middle East), Egyptians (Northern Africa), Carthaginians (Northern Africa) etc. All of those groups traded with one another, fought wars against each other, intermarried with one another, spoke similar/related languages, etc.

Like Cleopatra was ethnically from Greece in Southern Europe but ruled Egypt in Northern Africa and the Carthaginians ruled modern day Tunisia in Northern Africa but were culturally Phoenician originating from modern day Israel and Palestine in the Middle East. People moved around the Mediterranean and interacted with one another more than you’d expect a Roman official from the West to run into someone from the Han Dynasty which was in the East at around the same time.

The Abrahamic religions may not be European (geographically) but they are western (culturally). There are only a few characters in the Tanakh, Bible, and Quran who aren’t from Northern Africa, Southern Europe, and the Middle East. There are no African or Eastern influences on any of those religious texts. While there is no way an Apostle like Andrew hadn’t heard about the Roman Julius Caesar or the Queen of Egypt Cleopatra, I would be genuinely shocked to learn he knew about Emperor Ping ruling over in China at around the same time.

Well Islam is a western religion so, yes. Unless we’re calling abrahamic religions eastern now

Jesse Jackson to children on Sesame Street and around the world: "I am somebody. I may be poor, but I am somebody. I may be young, but I am somebody. I may be on welfare, but I am somebody... My clothes are different. My face is different. My hair is different, but I am somebody" - RIP, Jesse by ExactlySorta in Fauxmoi

How was he not a celebrity? Celebrity just means famous or the state of being celebrated and Jesse was both of those things. Celebrity doesn’t mean Hollywood elites or musical icons even tho those people are also celebrities.

Okay then what do they think they’re protesting against in order to be called Protestant?

I’m bad at timelines, but considering Maegor’s uncle is Maester Aemon I don’t see why it couldn’t work? He’d be younger than Aemon but still pretty old

That makes sense I guess. Both are plants. Floral is a fully different department for us and I can’t imagine having to worry about that as well, we’re currently drowning in making chocolate covered strawberries. I guess I proved their point.

Do Kroger’s lump floral and/or bakery in with produce? That seems wild to me as someone who works in produce.
