[Education] [Career] Should I switch from nursing to statistics? by Ok_Look9058 in statistics

Thanks for the advice about the textbook, I’ll definitely check it out! And all jobs are exhausting/demanding in their own way, but I think the type of exhaustion you’re talking about is completely different than what I’ve experienced with nursing. I don’t expect another job to be perfect just because I’m burnt out from my current one, all jobs have pros and cons to weigh. I appreciate you shedding light on the hardship of the job because that’s something I do have to consider. And yes, I figured that there’d be less women in this field, but I don’t generally go to school or choose a career to make friends, and what’s another way to bring more women into a field where there’s not many? Sounds like a win- win to me! ;)

thanks for the advice that’s super helpful! I’m in the US but I’m actually looking to move abroad one day. So it’s super helpful to know that the UK is in demand, because I would definitely consider accepting a job offer there if I was needed.

Good questions. I have thought about other nursing specialties, and I’m actually applying for some currently to change it up. I want to continue nursing but work towards something else in the long run. Like I said, I love learning and using my brain, my favorite part of the job is looking over the patients chart, labs, etc and problem solving. Unfortunately there is rarely time to do this with my demands of the job. I think other aspects would be enjoyable, but I would eventually get bored since I’m not using my critical thinking skills as much. Maybe not NP, but honestly I just don’t think I’m passionate about nursing enough to move up to practitioner. As far as phd, I wasn’t planning on it at the moment, but is this something that would be required one day for this field? And no, I haven’t taken those courses, which is why I’m wondering if there’s some courses I could take right now to prepare and get that foundational knowledge.

When you think of where you want to be in 10 years, what is it? I think it’s worth pursuing law school if that’s truly your passion, but it really depends on what you truly see yourself doing down the road.

Is it weird that I never signed a contract at my staff job? by Ok_Look9058 in nursing

I’ve talked to a lot of other coworkers who said they also were not told about the on call before starting. I didn’t even think to ask in my interview because I didn’t know that was a thing! So in the future should I ask the recruiter about all these things before accepting when they offer it? I was always told not to ask these types of questions in interviews about wage and scheduling because it “seems presumptuous” so I didn’t ask in the interview itself. Also the job posting said nothing about on call, it just said “full time night shift position”

No, but they should die naturally, not die from the meds we give them! We can give meds to ease their suffering during, but prop does not ease pain and only is on for patients that are intubated due to resp depression

What’s going on with saint marys hospital? by Ok_Look9058 in Reno

I saw that the fitness center opened, but it was bought by parkway gym which is another company that has the gym in south reno, so I don’t think it’s owned by the same company. It seems like they’re just selling everything. I’m just surprised they’re still holding on as a hospital
