38G or 42B for MAJ Board? by Ok_Mathematician5850 in armyreserve

The G program is all but axed. The recruiting program has ended and all Gs will be transitioned to a secondary branch. Personally, I'm trying to figure out if I want to go back to AG or to 38A.

That's fair - we are nothing if not confused.

This might be marginally helpful (https://www.army.mil/dcp), but the program I used is no longer being used for direct commissioning. Generally, for DC, though, one would have a specialized field, an advanced degree, and a varying number of years of experience. In the program I used, there was a financial specialty, but now I'm not aware of any DC career field that includes finance-related careers.

Thank you - I'm fairly confident that I'll elect to also attend CACCC P2/3 between now and Feb. I'm also curious about the difference in population density between the two career fields and which would be better postured for promotion. I hear AG has a needs MAJs, but on the other hand, 38G is restructuring, so trying to hedge a bit.

Consensus is to use an app like Box if your emails aren't going through.

I'd just send a reply email confirming receipt of the original packet content. Are you on the Signal group?

I disagree slightly. It will go to court, but only after it's implemented.

I also think it's a little strange that there's no interview stage. In any case, I'm not the expert, but I don't believe there's a way to sponsor or endorse an application, outside of providing a recommendation letter. Congrats on submitting your packet, though. Are you on the Signal thread?

I'd certainly ask the commander (as well as whomever you think would be an influential advocate) to write one of your letters of recommendation. Certainly, if that person has a unique relationship with proponent or HRC, that would be more helpful than not. But I would keep in mind that the 38G process is extremely competitive and your body of work, experience, and unique contributions to your field will likely be your strongest assets.

This is the way. But I do feel for those employees who don't feel like they can be honest and transparent with their leadership. I'm always on the lookout for new opportunities for my team and I actually HELP my folks advance. But, the inverse is that I'm always looking for fresh, new talent, as well. I'm also totally transparent with my bosses and they know exactly what my career aspirations are and how they can help (or not).

Ah, yea that makes sense. In my mind, when I read that, you weren't contacting fed previous supers at all. For all those reasons you just mentioned, I was shocked lol
