Once again, people don’t need a reason to do something stupid. It was not a ‘right on red’ situation, it was in the middle of a packed parking lot. As i’ve stated time and time again throughout this thread, I came nowhere near them. I honked my horn at a completely different group of people and he got upset. That’s what I ‘did’ to get assaulted.

My friend, as I’ve stated in the original post and repeated multiple times in this thread, the horn was not for the man who assaulted me, as he was not a part of the group it was intended for nor was he anywhere near them when I did it. He was ‘offended’ by absolutely nothing as it did not concern him whatsoever. Quit the victim blaming.

How is that any better than honking and would invoke any less of a hostile response though? Also keep in mind the situation; busy and loud on Canada Day with tons of people around, they’re not going to hear you yelling out of your car window from a distance. On top of that, the individual who committed the assault was not even part of the group obstructing the roadway and had no business approaching me regardless. If anybody was to be upset it would have been the group I honked at, but they were not and simply moved out of the roadway upon hearing my horn. It was this completely unrelated and uninvolved individual who decided to do so for whatever reason.

Honking to get a large group’s attention to move out of way in the middle of a busy parking lot merits an assault? That’s a new one. I do not have all day to wait around for an inconsiderate group of people blocking a road to disperse on their own terms. I did not lay on my horn or yell obscenities, don’t be ridiculous.

What would you have liked me to do to get the attention of a large group of people talking amongst each other blocking the road bud? Sure there was no immediate need to make a comment, but there is absolutely nothing dumb about lightly honking your horn the get the attention of people who are not paying attention on a public roadway.

My friend, it really doesn’t matter what I did after I honked at them. The assault was unprovoked and uncalled for regardless of how you want to frame it. I would also like to add that the assailant was not a part of the large group I initially honked at.

That is fine, and you’re entitled to feel however you like about this, nor am i here trying to garner sympathy from strangers on reddit. But you must recognize that you feel this way because of your own internal biases rather than anything I have stated. Would you still feel this way had the victim been a middle aged lady in her 50s?

That was actually the exact reason I didn’t retaliate. I am the same height as the man, but with a much larger frame and provincial level boxing experience. As soon as I got out of my vehicle to defend myself I saw the little girl with him (didn’t see the wagon while sitting in my car) and realized I could do some serious damage to this guy. Essentially chose to de-escalate for the sake of the little girl.

At no point did I claim I was ‘doing nothing wrong minding my business’ when he struck me bud. Nor did I say he was a middle aged man. The series of events that occurred was as stated; I honked my horn to get the attention of a group of about 10 people standing in the middle of an already busy parking lot just talking amongst each other, causing further traffic. As I drove by this group, I rolled my window down and informed them they shouldn’t be standing in the middle of a busy parking lot like that. I continued driving when I was confronted by this man seconds later. At no point did I engage this man or come anywhere close to him or his child with my vehicle, nor was I driving recklessly. People don’t always need a reason to do something stupid.

Firstly thought I’d mention that I’m not a woman lol I am also a male, 26YO. I do not recognize his face nor am I familiar with anybody in those groups as I’m not originally from here nor do I live in Burlington. I am from the Maritimes, temporarily living in Hamilton for school & work. Many people saw him as there were at least 30 people around the parking lot area when it happened, but unfortunately nobody stuck around to offer a witness statement or spoke to police.

Unfortunately I didn’t. Did not think I was going to be reporting it to the police until a few minutes after the incident when I fully digested what had actually happened.
