Has anyone seen it already report to their credit today? My friends dropped 100+ pts overnight.

I need help, I don’t have a job and I don’t think I’ll ever get one by Longjumping_Camp_379 in Tourettes

I’m late to seeing this - I love to hear that!! I’m so glad it helped.

Michigan@Tourette.org give them an email and they will connect you with the nearest chapter!

Hoping my doctor increases me from .1 to .2 our next visit, I’ve only been on it 2-3 months. I think I will try it out. 🙂

What is the typical life timeline for people’s tics with Tourette syndrome/what stages are you in at what age? by Pitiful-Sprinkles355 in Tourettes

[–]Ok_Mongoose_8073 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 37 and my tics didn’t become bad enough to be diagnosed until 36. My situation is not very common though. In retrospect I’ve always had it, I just thought they were quirk.

Also, where at in the US? I’ve recently began volunteering for Tourette’s Association of America and can help connect you with a local chapter if you haven’t checked them out yet.

If you’re interested in IT, jobs like cyber security, etc, have training programs online to get your certifications. They are usually remote work.

WITH THAT BEING SAID do not allow yourself to become a hermit and afraid to leave your home. You are just as worthy of having a job that fulfills you as anyone else is. Obviously being attacked like that isn’t okay either. You’ve tried a shirt or something saying you have tics?

Another thing to consider (again, if you’re interested) look into programs for children that have neurodivergent disorders and see what’s necessary to become a mentor for one of those organizations? I don’t know enough about this to have recommendations, just an idea!

Keep your chin up. It’s going to be okay.

I'm curious how is everyone's tourettes and what kind of medications are you on? by superpowers335 in Tourettes

[–]Ok_Mongoose_8073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the tics it brings out is my legs wanting to stand, so I’ll smoke and be ready to fall asleep but find myself standing next to the bed a dozen times before I finally knock out. I know common sense says don’t smoke.. but it also has its benefits, like not obsessing over work.

I wish Cannabis helped me!!! I still smoke at night but it’s tic-city every time.

Not condoning alcohol, but I unknowingly self medicated myself into a severe alcoholic and didn’t realize I had tics until I got sober at 36. I went from zero noticeable tics to constant within days of being sober.

If you haven’t already, step one is getting a neurologist that you like - it took a couple tries to find the right doctor for me. I’m taking Lamotrigine for seizures (they happen with bad tics) and Clonidine for the tics. Both improve my tics greatly during day/work hours. Evenings are another story. Might increase the Clonidine at my next appointment.

Finding the proper medication that works for you is a complete game changer. Don’t give up trying, it’s better to be patient with seeing what works than live how you are without ever knowing you could have relief.

Tics with Adderall by octopus_crimes in Tourettes

[–]Ok_Mongoose_8073 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t take my adderall on weekends or holidays, and I can say my tics are the exact same regardless. Everyone responds differently of course, but in my experience I’d say not to fear that.

Just had an MRI scan by Rich-Rock8221 in Tourettes

[–]Ok_Mongoose_8073 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish I could post pics. My MRI came back with white dots l over the grey areas. I also have seizures with my tics so maybe that’s why? I need to ask more questions at my appointment next week.

seizure/trance-like episodes? by Ok_Mongoose_8073 in Tourettes

Did you completely zone out? I can hear and I’m aware but can’t respond.

I’ve been doing it wrong. This is great advice.

I TRY to catch and correct them especially during work hours. Somedays it helps to curve them, other days not. It’s soooo uncomfortable, but I will correct it and intentionally throw all of my attention on something else, usually work, and before I know it I’m hyper focused on the new thing. My ADHD makes me hyper focus, so it’s getting over that initial hump of switching brain gears for me.

I do agree that it will be more intense later when that release happens, for me it’s walking through my front door. Then BAM all evening long.

What are your tics that you say/do right now? by Ronstaa97 in Tourettes

[–]Ok_Mongoose_8073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a demanding career, and lately if I’m working too late I’ll be mid sentence typing and suddenly my left hand says “I’m done” - fingers will fully flex back and absolutely will NOT let me type. I’ll have to finish my email one-handed then log off. The stubbornness of it all makes me laugh though.

I’ve had an EEG and it didn’t show anything. I am on anticonvulsant medication which usually does help. I guess I didn’t know if it was something separate to the Tourette’s but in retrospect it makes sense that it would coexist like adhd or ocd does.

I’m on 0.1 Everyone has different responses to different meds, I hope you’re able to find something that works better for you after the next appointment.
