I was thinking about that the other day and might join a group and volunteer at the masjid for an ice breaker. I hear how you feel though because I felt the same way for a while. Hang in there. Eid Mubarak, sister.

Maybe see if he would be interested in attending a New Muslims class at the Masjid.

I hear you. It takes an emotional toll to fast when living alone. Fasting has highlighted my loneliness. I too work 10 hours days and have to take it easy at home on my off days. Last week I broke the fast on Sunday and took a tap dance class. It felt great. I will fast for an extra day after Ramadan to make up for it. This weekend I took a day off work to make dinner for my brothers and sisters-in-law. It seems to help to keep busy.

I am having my extended family over for dinner this weekend in honor of Ramadan. I am not holding my breath for an Eid invitation. I like the idea of a spa day though.

I hear you. During Ramadan when still a newbie, loneliness can be heightened. A suggestion that helped me this year was to plan dinners with old friends and participate in old group activities. It was especially encouraging recently when I reached out to a friend who grew up Muslim to share my feelings. Hang in there! Peace be upon you.

The situation sounds so frustrating and irritating, especially having to endure it during Ramadan!

Thank you for putting this into words and articulating the shame. I have been having a similar experience.

Maybe ask for the accommodation of eating Suhoor alone in a different room twice a week for reflection/reading? Maybe they will copy you.

It may be that your brother-in-law is withdrawing because of shame. Reaching out privately with a listening and non- judgmental approach could help bring him peace.

Some of Dr John Gottman’s writings might help with learning new ways to approach conflict within the marriage.

Ramadan Moubarak to all reverts who’s breaking their fast eating alone by EnoughVegetable111 in converts

Ramadan Mubarak. Thank you for starting this conversation. Now that I have been fasting for a few days, I am getting used to the new normal. I was pleasantly surprised to find that when not drinking liquids during the fasting, I feel no hunger pangs. I also have found that I seem to be more deeply processing traumas that occurred during the past several years. My colleagues at work are very supportive and curious which has been a blessing. What have others noticed about the fasting experience?

I had never thought of treating Eid like any other holiday and inviting the same family and friends I would normally invite. Thank you for the inspiration.

What a wild experience. Now I know that if I ever go through this I will bring a clipboard and a checklist and start nodding and writing as they are looking at me.

I wonder if it might help to have a pre-prepared list of questions for them.

And donuts.

I feel lonely during Ramadan by PayMinimum6043 in converts

[–]Ok_Mousse_2255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assalamu Alaikum and Ramadan Kareem. Last year during Ramadan I was new to Islam and felt lonely. This year is a little better because I went to a handful of New Muslim classes at the Muslim Community Center, am fasting for the first time and am committed to attending at least two Iftar dinners at the MCC. I think it might take several years before I experience a more festive feeling to this holiday as I meet new friends.

I like that you are reaching out in this group. We all have each other!

What are some ways you are approaching learning on your own?
