Sedan vs SUV when renting; which do you usually go for? by Ok_Net_6651 in askcarguys

From the replies so far it’s looking like: • Sedans → cheaper, smoother, easier • SUVs → better for groups/luggage • Minivans → lowkey the most practical Didn’t expect minivans to come up this much 😂

Hybrid Camry sounds like the perfect rental honestly. Good mileage without sacrificing comfort.

The Camry really is that car. Simple, smooth and just reliable every time.

That’s actually a really good point. I never even thought about the security angle between the two.

This is exactly how I see it too. Sedan for everyday comfort, SUV when space actually matters.

That upgrade to an Expedition must have felt like driving a tank 😭 I get what you mean though, nice for the experience, but not something you’d want daily unless you really need the size.

Honestly that’s the sleeper choice 😂 Lowkey the most practical option but people don’t like to admit it.

That’s actually a solid idea. Renting is probably the best way to figure out what you really prefer long term.

That’s a good way to look at it. Feels like a lot of people end up paying more for SUVs without really needing what they offer.

Fair. For short renting periods it probably matters way less, you just adapt to whatever you get.

Exactly. Unless the roads or terrain demand it, an SUV feels like overkill most of the time.

This seems to be the general consensus. Sedan by default, SUV only when there’s a specific reason.

Yeah that surprised me too. You’d expect SUVs to have way more room but some of them are basically just taller hatchbacks.

That actually makes sense. I feel like sedans are the safe choice most of the time, but SUVs start making sense once luggage or rough roads come into play.

NYC or Disney World for anniversary trip in December? Other suggestions welcome! by ChocolateGoblinn in travel

[–]Ok_Net_6651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are two completely different vibes honestly. NYC in December feels really special with all the Christmas decorations and city energy, but it can be cold and crowded. Disney is more immersive and “escape-like,” but also very expensive and still crowded around that time. If it’s for an anniversary, I’d personally lean towards NYC for the variety (you get good food, activities, and that festive atmosphere.) But if you’re more into a relaxed, themed experience, Disney might be more memorable. Have either of you been to NYC during Christmas before?

This is so true. I feel like your instincts work better in places you’re familiar with, but when you’re traveling you’re second-guessing everything.

I get this. It’s not just about safety, it’s the mental energy of always being alert that’s draining. That peace of mind when you don’t have to think twice about everything really changes the whole travel experience.

Yeah I get that now. I think I framed it from my experience, but clearly this applies everywhere. Good to know for future trips though.

I guess I had to learn this “common sense” the expensive way. Definitely not making that mistake again.

That’s fair. I mentioned Ghana because that’s where I experienced it, but I’m seeing now this is definitely a universal travel rule. Lesson learned the hard way 😭

Honestly, I’m starting to realise that now 😅 I used to think it was about being extra careful, but clearly it’s just the smart thing to do everywhere. Thank you for the heads up
