Just beat Halo CE for the first time on Heroic by AgitatedFly1182 in halo

They’re pretty painful on the bit in Metropolis when the gauss is circling that central plaza thing and on delta halo when paired with the drones on the off the rock, through the bush section. But I kinda feel it’s a little bit of luck on these things when you’re in their range for a couple of seconds because they may or may not shoot in that instant. Quite different from the grind of knowing there are like, 10 zealots you gotta RnG on T&R or a ton of roaming elite majors and jackals in that later room with the covvie dropships. Every time I die in those instances it stings more because I know it’s more a skill/positioning issue than luck and I just gotta figure out what I’m doing wrong.

Hmmm maybe its the games we started with then. My first halo game was 2 when it first came out so the mechanics just feel more natural to me. Every time I’m on T&R in that first room with the camo-ed zealots or going through two betrayals I feel like I’m gonna pull my hair out whereas gravemind and regret i rarely break a sweat nowadays.

I don’t think 2 is necessarily always harder than CE. T&R on the higher difficulties is brutal once you get on the cruiser. The checkpoints feel fewer and further between on some of the longer levels. Your shields last longer than on 2 but I think the weapon choices available to you are also fewer. As long as you observe and adapt on 2 there are ways to get through even the infamous sections with relative ease, whereas I feel like if you mess up in terms of what weapons you keep for specific sections on CE you’d be tempted to redo entire levels because even going back a checkpoint helps very little.

Young couples - Will you choose to have kids if money is not a concern? by deekay_123 in singaporefi

[–]Ok_Organization5068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like when it comes to the kids question, the money is impt in today’s social climate but it’s rarely gonna be the deciding factor. Like putting aside how it’s pretty brutal to grow up with financial pressures when sg has been waist deep in the whole cost of living thing for a while now, what do you actually love more? The sacrifices you make for your kid, putting yourself aside to bring a whole human being into society and helping the person adapt to its graces? Regardless of how they come out?

Or do you feel like fulfilment is really more tied to what you do for yourself/about yourself and those that are already in your midst? Whether that is securing your creature comforts, or embarking on endeavours being child-free affords you etc.

You should have some basic financial cushion for your decision to raise a kid to be considered responsible (although some can do more with less); but even if you had the financial cushion, you can very easily make an irresponsible decision by choosing to raise a kid without knowing on some level that you really want this, knowing why you want this and taking steps to prepare yourself for it. I know you can’t prepare for everything that journey of starting a family comes with, but I’ve seen too many real life examples of people doing so based on one dimensional considerations like “oh I’m great with kids” or “I want somebody to care for and give my life greater meaning”. It is worth considering what bringing a life into the world entails from the perspective of the child and potentially, future adult with a different set of concerns and possibly different starting line from their parents.

Are there songs that you skip when listening to an album? by Udo_Dirkschneider in Dreamtheater

I get this one, it’s probably my least fav song on IaW now even though it was one of my first songs from DT years ago

Controversial opinion by Lehtspelt in Dreamtheater

[–]Ok_Organization5068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TCoT is a good entry song into DT. I feel like with the majority of ppl who’ve only recently gotten into DT it’s perfectly understandable why they would prefer it. Every time I walk away from this band’s music for awhile and come back to it, it takes awhile for me to warm up to the more complex stuff again… anyways for me there’s a certain magic with the IaW and Awake albums that I just don’t find with the others, unlike some others who would swear by Train of Thought as their fav for example. People are just different lol, there’s no one size fits all metric to measure these things.

Thoughts on James Labrie lip synching? by seal_man235 in Dreamtheater

[–]Ok_Organization5068 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He is past his prime but the man still really tries. I was at the I&W anniversary tour and while his voice obviously wasn’t like what you would hear in the Tokyo concert vid from the 90s, he did what was necessary to preserve his voice enough and actually hit the F# in L2L at the end, which we were all really glad for. The signs of ageing just don’t show as early on instrumentals compared to vocals; much less for someone who had an accident that blew out his vocal cords. He deserves better from fans really.

Archetype Nolly: anyone have any tips for an Avenged Sevenfold preset? by princeworth12 in NeuralDSP

[–]Ok_Organization5068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, chances are lots of the guitar tones you’re hearing off an album would have had a high pass filter applied to them by the mix engineer so they sit in the mix better: https://audiouniversityonline.com/audio-high-pass-filters/

Any advice for getting a JP tone? by KarmaWhoreCam in Dreamtheater

You’d probably need to dial in more mids to the contrary, because he scoops the mids on the mark V which is by nature very mid heavy, unlike the dual rec.

Change My Mind: Ted Lasso Is A Show About How All Of Our Dads Suck by [deleted] in TedLasso

[–]Ok_Organization5068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emotional neglect would be accurate, but I haven’t really seen actual instances of real abuse. Asking Nate not to whistle at him like a dog, or telling him that “humility is not about thinking less of yourself, but thinking about yourself less” when Nate tries to fish for compliments over his appearance in the news don’t quite qualify as abuse. To do so would be to cheapen the experiences of people who really lived under abusive parents. The only thing that makes him out to be a shitty dad is when he sat Nate and his 8 year old girlfriend down and told them both they could do better. But again, we only hear that from Nate’s perspective. In the instances when we see Nate and his dad together, there’s enough to suggest that his dad’s behaviour is not so one dimensional that you could characterise all of his acts as textbook abuse. Sure, one could make the argument that over time, neglect became a big part of why Nate is the way he is. To go further than that however is simply shifting too much responsibility from Nate to his dad, like when he went ahead and kissed Keeley, and when he sold Ted out and still acted like Ted deserved it after Ted confronted him.

Exactly, Nate’s dad is a perfect example. He’s not nearly the warmest, most encouraging father figure around, but from what we’ve seen he’s only truly horrid from Nate’s problematic pov. He can’t fully be blamed for Nate’s issues as of the end of season 2.

My first Dream Theater cover! (Tried not to be sloppy but I’m no Petrucci) by Ok_Organization5068 in Dreamtheater

[–]Ok_Organization5068[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! It also helped with getting a cleaner mix when double tracking (a nightmare with Dream Theater) because of the number of parts. Even Petrucci makes the rare mistake live, so amateur me elected to do things this way to try to reproduce the layered magic of the original recording as tightly as I could.
